Pasiga sa West 2025 came alive on December 9, 2025, at the WVSU Grandstandโ€”an evening where light did more than shine; it gathered people. The campus was illuminated not only by festive decorations, but also by a spectacular fireworks display that marked a night of shared celebration and joy.

Taga-West came together as one community, moved by songs, carols, and heartfelt melodies from the Panayana Cultural Group and WVSU La Musika. In every note and every cheer, the spirit of unity and holiday warmth resonated across the grounds. With gratitude, we thank the university administration, our partners, and all taga-West for making this meaningful celebration possible.

The season of giving continues beyond the event through a gift-giving initiative for our GSO staff and security personnelโ€”made possible through the generosity and donations of our College Student Councils (CSCs).

A celebration of light, service, and solidarityโ€”rooted in the true spirit of the holidays.

The University Student Council expresses its deep concern over the recent bomb threats directed at several academic institutions across Iloilo. These incidents disrupt academic life and common peoplesโ€™ livelihoods, and undermine academic freedom and our shared commitment to keep schools safe, inclusive, and secure for all.

We stand in solidarity with our fellow schools, including the University of San Agustin, Iloilo Science and Technology University, Hua Siong College, Central Philippine University, and others affected, who faced uncertainty while classes were ongoing. We firmly stress that bomb threats are not jokes. They are criminal acts that cause fear and disorder, which deserve no place in educational spaces.

We recognize that investigations to identify those responsible are underway, and we commend the prompt response of law enforcement agencies and university security personnel in addressing these threats. We respectfully call on our local government unit to look closely into this matter and keep individuals who were proven to be behind this scheme and have endangered students, faculty, and staff held fully accountable under applicable Philippine laws.

We humbly recommend that the university administration strengthen its security protocols through measures that are balanced, rights-respecting, and considerate of student welfare. At the same time, students are highly encouraged to report suspicious messages, behaviors, or individuals through proper and verified channels to prevent misinformation and ensure coordinated action.

We assert that no attempt to spread fear, disturb learning, or intimidate academia will deter educational institutions from fulfilling their mission. History could attest that they have long stood as pillars of knowledge, service, and nation-building. These threats will not break our resolve to continue teaching, learning, and serving the public. Our schools will remain places where truth is pursued and where students grow, unshaken by those who seek to threaten their future.

As student leaders, we carry the mission to uphold student welfare, defend the integrity of academic spaces, and foster an environment where learning thrives without worry. Our responsibility does not waver in the face of terror; instead, it reinforces our resolve to serve with diligence and integrity. Moving forward, the University Student Council remains committed to safeguarding the university community and supporting our partner institutions during this unsettling period. Let us stay united, cautious, and steadfast in upholding peace and order.

Always yours, in the service of the students for safe spaces.

Republic Act No. 11369 declared November 17 as National Studentsโ€™ Day, a law that recognizes a truth carved into our nationโ€™s history: ๐ฐ๐ก๐ž๐ง๐ž๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ฎ๐๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ฌ ๐ฆ๐จ๐›๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ณ๐ž, ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ง๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐ฆ๐จ๐ฏ๐ž๐ฌ. Every victory for freedom, every breakthrough for democracy, every shift toward justice has always been pushed forward by the courage, defiance, and collective power of the youth.

But today, on the very day meant to honor the Filipino student, we confront a painful reality. While the government pours billions into flood control projects, State Universities and Colleges continue to bleed from budget cuts. Educationโ€”our futureโ€”is treated as an afterthought.

WVSU proposed โ‚ฑ5.23 billion for 2026 to address its urgent needs, yet the National Expenditure Program slashes this to โ‚ฑ2.32 billion. The message is clear: they expect us to make do with scraps while billions disappear elsewhere.

This chronic underfunding is not just a number on a document. It is the flooded and crumbling building of the College of Business and Management. It is the makeshift classrooms in WVSU Himamaylan. It is the students who lost their uniforms and materials during Typhoon Tino, still waiting for the support they rightfully deserve. It is the future they are denying us.

And now, as the student body prepares to take collective action, we face another alarming event. WVSU has just experienced a bomb threat. Whatever the intention behind it, one thing is certain: ๐Ÿ๐ž๐š๐ซ ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐ง๐ž๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ ๐›๐ž ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ž๐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ฌ๐ข๐ฅ๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ก. The government must ensure the safety of students and protect the very foundation it pledged to uphold. You cannot intimidate a generation raised in crisis and forged in struggle. You cannot scare students into silence. We are the youth. We are the future. And the future does not falter.

The WVSU-University Student Council calls on every student to join the walkathon today at 1 PM outside WVSU. Stand with us. March with us. Let the nation hear what happens when students refuse to be ignored.

Whatever the means, let us be united in one cause: to demand accountability. Even if you cannot take to the streets, your voice mattersโ€”whether online, in your communities, or through other forms of advocacy, you are part of this movement.

Take to the streets if you can. Speak up in whatever way you can. Defend your right to quality education and your right to mobilize. History has proven that when the youth rises, regimes tremble and nations transform.

On this National Studentsโ€™ Day, we do not celebrate quietly.

The cheers grow louder, the plays get tougher, and the passion burns brighter as the Falcons take the field with everything theyโ€™ve got. Every shout from the sidelines fuels their spirit, and every drop of sweat becomes a symbol of a team that refuses to back down.

Forged through grit. Driven by pride. The Falcons prove they can conquer the skies.
