University Student Electoral Committee (USEC) holds General Orientation and Oath-Taking Ceremony officially commenced welcoming the members of the College Students Eelctoral Committee (CSEC), thursday, January 22. The program provided an opportunity for the new officers and commissioners to be formally introduced and guided as they begin their service to the student body.
Dr. Ma. Pilar S. Malata, Dean of Student Affairs (OSA), led the oath-taking ceremony and officially welcomed the members of the universityβs student electoral body highlighting the importance of the USEC and CSEC in upholding the democratic rights of the students.
Shalene Magrete Joy Cachuela, University Student Council Chairperson emphasizing the need to focus on transparent and clear elections, while USC Vice Chairperson Pslams Matthew Saligumba urged improvements in the electoral process and expressed hope of achieving more than a 50% voter turnout across the universityβs student population.
Moreover, Prof. Rofa Mae Medina, the former USEC Chairperson, shared insightful tips on how to handle responsibilities and work as a student electoral committee member based on her own experience. She stated that real strength comes from listening, collaborating, and admitting mistakes, highlighting the importance of leadership, teamwork, and accountability.
The event also served as a venue for sharing valuable insights from previous leadership and for deepening everyoneβs understanding of the WVSU Student Electoral Code, election guidelines, and the importance of strong coordination between USEC and CSEC. Through these discussions, the new set of student electoral officers were equipped with a clearer sense of their roles, responsibilities, and the standards they are expected to uphold throughout the electoral process.
