The Research Center will be hosting a hybrid seminar on the current advances of genetics research with the topics 'Engineering Resilience in Rice: Transcriptomic Profiling and RNA-Sequencing of Drought Tolerance' and 'Engineering Resilience in Rice: A Systems Biology Approach Using WGCNA and CRISPR Validation' on 17 August 2026 (01:00 PM - 04:00 PM) via Cisco Webex Platform and at the CvSU Interdisciplinary Research Building Conference Room.

The talk will cover the background and rationale of RNA-sequencing/qRT-PCR results as the 'profiling' stage and the current shift from profiling to complex network analysis and functional, real-world validation. This will be delivered by Dr. Jeshurun Asher M. Tarun, Balik Scientist at the Cavite State University.

The Department of Biological Sciences faculty and students participated in the Philippine Society for Microbiology (PSM) 9th Asia Pacific Biotechnology Congress and 55th Annual Convention and Scientific Meeting, held on July 15–17, 2026 at the Enrique K. Razon Jr. Hall, De La Salle University – Laguna Campus, Biñan City, Laguna.

BS Biology students presented four undergraduate research studies on coffee fermentation and microbiology.

Congratulations to 𝗠𝗿. 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝘃𝘆 𝗣. 𝗔𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆𝗮, a graduating BS Biology major in Medical Biology student, for being recognized as one of the awardees of HIRAYA ng CALABARZON: Natatanging Iskolar ng UniFAST 2026.

Presented by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Regional Office IV, the award honors outstanding Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education (UAQTE) Act grantees who have demonstrated academic excellence, exemplary leadership, and remarkable achievements during Academic Year 2025–2026.

The awarding ceremony was held on May 18, 2026, at the Sentrum, De La Salle Lipa, Batangas. Mr. Andaya is set to graduate this August 2026, marking yet another milestone in his academic journey.

Congratulations to 𝗠𝘀. 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗮𝘆𝗹𝗮 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗠. 𝗔𝘆𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗮 and 𝗠𝗿. 𝗡𝗲𝗶𝗹 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗦. 𝗟𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗼 for presenting their research posters at the 48th Annual Scientific Meeting of the National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL), held on July 8–9, 2026, at The Manila Hotel, Manila.

Their poster presentations were based on their undergraduate theses. Ms. Aytona, on behalf of her thesis groupmates, Mr. Gian Robi G. Apid and Mr. Rafael Keno A. Cubcubin, presented their study on indigenous pectinolytic yeasts for Excelsa coffee fermentation under the guidance of Asst. Prof. Angelbert D. Cortes as thesis adviser and Asst. Prof. Jamaica Q. Espineli as technical critic. Mr. Lalunio, now a DBS faculty member, presented the study he co-authored with Ms. Alyssa Marie V. Panelo on xylanase-producing bacteria from coffee cherries, under the guidance of Asst. Prof. Angelbert D. Cortes as thesis adviser and Dr. Jonathan R. Digma as technical critic.

Also present during the event was Asst. Prof. Angelbert D. Cortes, who joined his former undergraduate students in celebrating this milestone. Congratulations to our students and mentors for showcasing undergraduate research on the national stage!
