A meaningful beginning to a new chapter of learning beyond the classroom.

On August 15, 2026, the Bachelor of Science in Social Work students gathered through a Google Meet Online Conference for the Field Instruction I General Orientation, providing students with essential guidance as they prepare to embark on their field instruction journey.

The program opened with a prayer, followed by welcome remarks from Mr. Renato T. Agdalpen, MA, Department Chairperson of the Department of Social Sciences, and an inspirational message from Dr. Ammie P. Ferrer, PhD, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

The orientation also featured the presentation of the FI I School Field Supervisors by Ms. Merlie C. Nahilat, MSSW, Head of the Social Work Program, followed by the FI I Orientation Proper facilitated by Henelyn L. Lapizar, MSSW, Field Instruction Coordinator, and an open forum where students were given the opportunity to raise questions and gain further clarification regarding their field instruction.

A significant part of the orientation was the discussion on important laws and policies relevant to students entering the field, including Republic Act No. 11313 or the Safe Spaces Act (Anti-Bastos Law), Republic Act No. 7877 or the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act of 1995, and Republic Act No. 11036, reinforcing the importance of safety, professionalism, respect, and accountability in the field.

The session concluded with the Response from the Students and closing remarks from Ms. Merlie C. Nahilat, MSSW.

As students take their first steps toward field instruction, may this orientation serve as a reminder that Social Work education extends beyond theories and classrooms. It is also about learning through experience, understanding people and communities, and carrying the values of the profession into every space we enter.
