The Office of the Municipal Agriculturist of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Gumaca, Quezon, successfully conducted the "Advanced Meliponiculture: Colony Management and Honey Production Seminar" on October 6, 2026, at the Conference Hall, Municipal Hall of Gumaca, Quezon.

The seminar was attended by members of the Beekeepers Association of Gumaca, aiming to enhance their knowledge and skills in proper stingless bee colony management and honey production.

Serving as resource persons were Assoc. Prof. Michele T. Bono and Dr. Dickson N. Dimero of the BRITE Center, who shared their expertise and insights on advanced meliponiculture practices.

Through initiatives like this, the LGU of Gumaca continues to support local beekeepers in strengthening and promoting sustainable beekeeping practices, and creating opportunities for increased productivity and livelihood development in the community.

IN PHOTOS: The Bee Research, Innovation, Trade, and Extension (BRITE) Center actively participated in the RAISE Program Stakeholdersโ€™ Consultation Meeting held on October 6, 2026, at the CvSU International Convention Center.

The meeting brought together project leaders, university representatives, institutional partners, and farmer-adopters to discuss strategies for sustaining the gains and strengthening the long-term impact of the RAISE Program in Southern Tagalog.

Representing the BRITE Centerโ€™s adopters were:
1. Ms. Cherish B. del Rosario, owner of Little Neohโ€™s Farm;
2. Mr. Henry S. Brolagda and Ms. Mercedes Brolagda, owners of Lucciole Family Farm; and
3. Ms. Marilyn T. dela Cruz, owner of Greens for Growth Farming School.

During the consultation, the adopters identified several priority needs and challenges related to product development and honey processing. The discussion of these concerns opened opportunities for potential collaborations among universities, government agencies, and other partner institutions. Through these partnerships, the identified needs may be addressed through technical assistance, research and development, laboratory services, equipment support, and other appropriate interventions.

As the BRITE Center continues to advance agricultural research, innovation, technology transfer, and extension services, it remains committed to supporting sustainable regional development and building stronger farming communities across Southern Tagalog.

Twelve years ago, our journey began in November 2014 as a DA-BAR-funded CvSU Bee Program. Fast forward to February 2023, and we officially grew into the institutional Bee Research, Innovation, Trade, and Extension (BRITE) Center. Today, we are taking our next big step by launching our official digital home.

Designed to streamline community access to apiculture resources, local products, and university extension services, the portal features:

1. Product Reservations: Reserve natural bee products directly from the BRITE Center and affiliated local farms through the โ€œBEE an Entrepreneurโ€ component of SACTO Bee extension project.

2. Trainings and Services: Register for extension components such as the "BEEyond the Hive" introductory training, and request technical assistance and advisory services.

3. Events: Track upcoming, ongoing, and completed beekeeping events, seminars, and training schedules.

The CvSU Bee Research, Innovation, Trade, and Extension (BRITE) Center successfully conducted its two-day training seminar, "๐๐„๐„๐ฒ๐จ๐ง๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐‡๐ข๐ฏ๐ž: ๐ˆ๐ง๐ญ๐ซ๐จ๐๐ฎ๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐ญ๐จ ๐๐ž๐ž๐ค๐ž๐ž๐ฉ๐ข๐ง๐ ," for ๐๐š๐ญ๐œ๐ก 35 ๐š๐ญ ๐‡๐จ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ฅ ๐“๐ซ๐จ๐ฉ๐ข๐œ๐š๐ง๐š, ๐‚๐š๐ฏ๐ข๐ญ๐ž ๐’๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ž ๐”๐ง๐ข๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ ๐Œ๐š๐ข๐ง ๐‚๐š๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ฎ๐ฌ. The training seminar provided participants with valuable knowledge about honeybees, stingless bees, and proper beekeeping practices.

On the first day, the program commenced with opening remarks from Assoc. Prof. Michele T. Bono, Director of the BRITE Center. This was followed by the introduction of participants by Dr. Dickson N. Dimero, Head of the Extension and Training Unit of the BRITE Center. Prof. Bono then introduced the CvSU-BRITE Center and discussed Bee Biology. From the Department of Biological Sciences under the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS-DBS), Assoc. Prof. Sherine M. Cruzate provided an overview of Apis cerana, or the Asian honeybee, while Asst. Prof. Jamaica Q. Espineli discussed beescapes and their importance in beekeeping. Prof. Bono concluded the first day by addressing common issues and concerns in beekeeping.

On the second day, Dr. Dimero provided participants with further insights into stingless beekeeping by introducing different hive types used for stingless bees and discussing proper hive management practices. Participants observed colonies of stingless bees, Tetragonula biroi and Tetragonula laeviceps, as well as honeybees, Apis mellifera, through demonstrations conducted by Dr. Dimero and Ms. Paula C. Mamolo, Project Technical Assistant of the BRITE Center. Another faculty member from CAS-DBS, Asst. Prof. Alcona Mae B. Caramillo, discussed the pollination behavior of bees and the plants they commonly pollinate.

The two-day training seminar concluded with enthusiastic participation and valuable insights gained by the attendees, who expressed their interest in pursuing beekeeping and maintaining their connection with the Center.

The BRITE Center looks forward to welcoming more members into the beekeeping community while continuing its efforts to promote the conservation and propagation of stingless bee populations.

The โ€œS&T Community-Based Farm (STCBF) on Harnessing the Synergy of Vegetable Production and Stingless Beekeepingโ€ (VegeBee), recently held the โ€œVegeBee: Training-Seminar on Vegetable Integrated Pest Managementโ€ on September 17, 2026, at the CvSU Bee Research, Innovation, Trade, and Extension (BRITE) Center. The activity aimed to improve project partnersโ€™ pest management practices for vegetable crops and equip them with enough knowledge to implement effective management strategies that are economically viable and socially acceptable.

Ms. Monina Dyan R. Elumba, a faculty member from the Department of Crop Science under the College of Agriculture, Food, Environment, and Natural Resources (CAFENR), served as the resource speaker. She shared her expertise on Integrated Pest Management of vegetable crops, discussing common insect pests and diseases and their management, specifically for the crops used in the project, such as tomato, eggplant, cucumber, okra, sitaw, and pepper.

Through this activity, the VegeBee project continues to empower the project partners and encourage a sustainable agricultural community.
