The CvSU Bee Research, Innovation, Trade, and Extension (BRITE) Center, in collaboration with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Alfonso, Cavite, successfully conducted the training-seminar entitled โBEEyond the Hive: Introduction to Beekeeping Batch 33โ on June 24, 2026, at Angelaโs Events Place, Sulsugin, Alfonso, Cavite.
The activity aimed to equip participants with basic knowledge and skills in beekeeping, deepen their understanding of the importance of bees in agriculture and the environment, and introduce livelihood opportunities through beekeeping. The said event strengthens the partnership between the LGU - Alfonso and the BRITE Center in advancing beekeeping initiatives within the province of Cavite.
The program formally opened with the acknowledgment of participants by Mr. Joel U. Credo, Municipal Agriculturist of Alfonso, Cavite, followed by the welcome remarks of Assoc. Prof. Michele T. Bono, Director of the BRITE Center. An inspirational message was delivered by Hon. Jeffrey James Salamat, Sangguniang Bayan Member and Chairperson of the Committee on Agriculture and Cooperatives. In his message, he highlighted the importance of beekeeping in promoting sustainable agriculture, environmental stewardship, and livelihood development within the community.
Assoc. Prof. Michele T. Bono discussed the topics: โIntroduction to Beekeepingโ and โBee Biology,โ while Dr. Dickson N. Dimero, Extension and Training Unit Head of the BRITE Center, delivered lectures on โStingless Beekeepingโ and the growing concern of "Honey Adulteration" Participants actively engaged in the discussions and open forum sessions. The activity was moderated by Mr. Manuel Gonzales, who facilitated the flow of the program.
The farmers of Alfonso expressed strong interest in adopting beekeeping technologies not only as an additional source of income but also to enhance pollination of crops in their farms.
