Cavite State University, through the College of Agriculture, Food, Environment, and Natural Resources (CAFENR), formally strengthened its partnership with the Alfonso Cacao Growers Association (ACGA) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), marking a significant step toward advancing sustainable agriculture, community development, and collaborative extension initiatives.

The signing ceremony was attended by CvSU officials led by University President Dr. Ma. Agnes P. Nuestro, together with Vice President for Research, Innovation and Extension Dr. Melbourne R. Talactac; Vice President for Administrative and Support Services Prof. John Xavier P. Nepomuceno; Director for the Public Affairs and Communications Office Dr. Tania Marie P. Melo; Project Leader Dr. Abigail P. Daria; and the staff of the Science and Technology Community-Based Farm (STCBF), the implementing unit of the project "Sustainable Cacao Production through Improved Management Practices in Alfonso, Cavite."

Representing the Alfonso Cacao Growers Association were its President, Mr. Pepito Vislenio, and Agricultural Technologist Mr. Sermelito Rolle, reaffirming the association's commitment to fostering partnerships that empower local cacao growers and strengthen the agricultural sector.

The MOU establishes a framework for collaboration in research, extension, technology transfer, and capacity-building initiatives, reflecting the shared commitment of CvSU and ACGA to promote sustainable cacao production, improve farmers' livelihoods, and contribute to the long-term growth of the agricultural community in Alfonso, Cavite.

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is now accepting applications for the Global Young Scientists Summit (GYSS) 2027, which will be held in Singapore from 04โ€“09 January 2027.

GYSS is an annual multi-disciplinary summit that brings together some of the worldโ€™s foremost scientists and technologists, including recipients of the Nobel Prize, Fields Medal, Turing Award, and Millennium Technology Prize. It provides aspiring researchers with the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions and connect with distinguished experts in various fields of science and research.

Who may apply?
Applicants must be:
โ€ข Post-doctoral researchers or equivalent (within five years of obtaining their PhD degree) โ€ข Graduate students (Masterโ€™s or Doctoral)
โ€ข Undergraduate students

They must also:
โœ” Show genuine interest in science and research
โœ” Demonstrate strong commitment to their principal field of study and interdisciplinary work
โœ” Be fluent in English
โœ” Be endorsed by their institution/organization
โœ” Not have participated on-site in previous GYSS (except GYSS 2021 and 2022 online editions)

CvSU President Dr. Ma. Agnes P. Nuestro and UKRIDA Rector Prof. Dr.-Ing. Herman Parung, M.Eng., formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding during a ceremony held at the University Boardroom. Witnessing the signing together with the UKRIDA Vice Rector Oki Sunardi were key university officials, including Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Cristina M. Signo; Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension Dr. Melbourne R. Talactac; deans from the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Medicine, Nursing, Engineering and Information Technology, and Economics, Management, and Development Studies; and the Officers-in-Charge of the International and Local Collaboration and Linkages Office (ILCLO).

The ceremony highlighted the key provisions of the agreement, including collaborative initiatives, shared responsibilities, and implementation mechanisms designed to strengthen academic linkages, research collaboration, and innovation between the two institutions. The partnership reflects CvSUโ€™s commitment to sustainable development and contributes to the attainment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly by promoting quality education and fostering international cooperation.
