PRRI EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR CHERYL L. EUSALA RECOGNIZED FOR PUBLIC SERVICE AND GOOD GOVERNANCE BY UPLB

LOS BAÑOS, LAGUNA — Dr. Cheryl L. Eusala, Executive Director III of the Philippine Rubber Research Institute (PRRI), was recognized by the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) College of Public Affairs and Development (CPAf) Alumni Association as a Distinguished Alumna Awardee in Public Service and Good Governance.

The award was conferred during the afternoon recognition ceremony on October 9, 2026, acknowledging Dr. Eusala’s professional contributions to public service and governance.

Earlier that day, Dr. Eusala participated as a speaker in the CPAf Alumni Forum, where she delivered a presentation titled “Beyond the Numbers: The Journey, the Challenges, and the Outcome.” She shared perspectives drawn from her professional journey, highlighting experiences and challenges encountered in public service and institutional leadership.

UPLB was also part of Dr. Eusala’s academic journey, where she pursued advanced studies in Community Development, with Strategic Planning and Policy Studies as her cognate. This academic foundation complements her professional experience in institutional management and agricultural development.

At PRRI, Dr. Eusala’s leadership supports the Institute’s efforts to strengthen research capabilities, build strategic partnerships, and improve support for rubber producers and processors. These initiatives help address industry challenges, expand access to quality planting materials and production technologies, and promote the productivity and livelihoods of rubber-growing communities.

PRRI EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR NAMED 2026 USM DISTINGUISHED ALUMNA IN EXTENSION

The Philippine Rubber Research Institute (PRRI) congratulates its Executive Director III, Dr. Cheryl L. Eusala, on being named the 2026 Distinguished Alumna in Extension by the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) through the MIT-USM Alumni Association, Inc. (MIT-USMAAI).

The recognition honors Dr. Eusala's remarkable contributions and achievements, which have brought honor and prestige not only to her alma mater, but to PRRI as well.

Dr. Eusala received the award during the USM Alumni Homecoming Celebration on September 30, 2026, and was formally conferred the distinction during the 72nd USM Founding Anniversary Convocation Program on October 1, 2026, at the USM Auditorium in Kabacan, Cotabato.

As PRRI Executive Director, Dr. Eusala leads the Institute in carrying out its mandate on research, development, extension, and technology promotion for the Philippine rubber industry.

The recognition is a significant milestone for Dr. Eusala as a USM alumna and a member of the Philippine agricultural research and extension community.

Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte | September 28, 2026 — The Philippine Rubber Research Institute (PRRI) culminated its celebration of the 2026 Civil Service Month with a fun-filled and refreshing activity in Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte on September 28, bringing together PRRI personnel in a celebration of camaraderie, public service, and the spirit of the Filipino civil servant.

Anchored on the Civil Service Month theme, “Puso, Dangal, at Galing para sa Bayan,” the activity highlighted the importance of dedication, integrity, and excellence in serving the public.

PRRI Executive Director Cheryl L. Eusala, Ph.D. reminded PRRI personnel of the fundamental responsibility that comes with being a government employee—that public office is a public trust.
She emphasized that every member of the PRRI team has a role in upholding the confidence entrusted by the public through dedicated, honest, and responsive service.

At the same time, Eusala encouraged the PRRI workforce to take the opportunity to relax, enjoy, and strengthen their bonds with fellow employees in order to be effective public servants.
The celebration featured fun and engaging activities that allowed the PRRI staff to unwind from their daily work and enjoy meaningful moments with colleagues. PRRI Brings Improved Rubber Technologies Closer to Farmers in Region 12

Magpet, Cotabato | About 300 rubber farmers participated in the Rubber Information Caravan in Region 12 on September 25, 2026, at the Magpet Municipal Gymnasium, strengthening their knowledge and access to technologies and interventions that can improve rubber production, quality, and profitability.

Farmers from the municipalities of Magpet, Kidapawan, Arakan, Makilala, and Antipas gathered for the one-day information caravan organized by the Philippine Rubber Research Institute (PRRI), carrying the theme, “Harnessing Innovation for a Sustainable and Profitable Rubber Industry.”

The activity aimed to bring research-based knowledge, improved technologies, and practical interventions closer to rubber-growing communities while providing farmers with an opportunity to engage directly with government agencies and other stakeholders supporting the rubber industry.

During the activity, PRRI Executive Director Cheryl L. Eusala, Ph.D. highlighted the importance of adopting improved technologies and practices in the rubber industry. She emphasized the role of innovation in addressing challenges in rubber production and helping farmers improve the quality and value of their produce.

Eusala also announced that PRRI will provide formic acid free of charge to rubber farmers next year, supporting farmers in improving the coagulation process and enhancing the quality of their rubber cup lumps.

Meanwhile, Magpet Mayor Jay Laurence Gonzaga expressed his support for the participating rubber farmers, sharing that he personally relates to their experiences as he also comes from a family of farmers. His message highlighted the importance of supporting farmers and recognizing their contribution to the agricultural development of their communities.

High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP) Director Joseph C. Manicad likewise expressed his support for PRRI and its continuing efforts to strengthen the rubber industry through technology, knowledge-sharing, and assistance to farmers.
In his session, Dr. Glenn Ilar discussed the importance of rubber in everyday living, highlighting the wide range of applications of rubber and its significance in various aspects of daily life. The discussion provided farmers with a broader appreciation of the value of rubber beyond its production at the farm level.

A key part of the caravan was the open forum and interaction with partner agencies, where farmers were given the opportunity to ask questions, raise concerns, and seek clarification on issues affecting their farms and livelihood. The exchange allowed participating agencies and technical experts to respond directly to the farmers’ concerns and provide practical information and guidance relevant to rubber production and other agricultural matters.

The interactive discussions underscored the importance of bringing government services and technical expertise closer to the grassroots, while also giving farmers a voice in identifying the challenges and support they need to improve their productivity and profitability.
The initiative forms part of PRRI’s continuing efforts to bring research-based technologies and practical interventions closer to rubber-growing communities, particularly in Region 12.

It also strengthened collaboration among PRRI, local government units, partner agencies, and rubber farmers toward the development of a more resilient and competitive rubber industry.

GOMA-gaang Buhay! PRRI Breaks Ground for R&D Building in Magpet, Cotabato

MAGPET, COTABATO | September 24, 2026 — The Philippine Rubber Research Institute (PRRI) officially broke ground for its upcoming Research and Development (R&D) Building in Barangay Gubatan, Magpet, Cotabato, marking another significant milestone in the Institute’s continuing efforts to strengthen rubber research, technology development, and extension services in Mindanao.

The groundbreaking ceremony highlighted the message of HVCDP Undersecretary Cheryl Marie Caballero-Natividad, who underscored the importance of strengthening research and development initiatives that support the growth and sustainability of the rubber industry also highlighted during the ceremony was the invaluable support of Magpet Municipal Mayor Jay Laurence S. Gonzaga, who donated the one-hectare parcel of land that will house the upcoming PRRI facility. The land donation reflects the municipality’s commitment to supporting initiatives that advance agricultural research, innovation, and the development of the local rubber industry.

In her message, PRRI Executive Director Cheryl L. Eusala, Ph.D. shared that the new building will serve as a PRRI satellite office, further expanding the Institute’s presence and accessibility in the region. She emphasized the strategic location of Magpet, noting that its geographic position will allow PRRI to more effectively deliver GOMA-gaang services and technical assistance to rubber-producing areas across Regions 10, 11, and 13.

The establishment of the R&D Building is expected to further enhance PRRI’s capacity to conduct research, develop appropriate technologies, and provide responsive technical and extension services to rubber stakeholders.
