🏅 PROUD MOMENT! A New Chapter Begins: FET-SSC Hosts First General Assembly

September 3, 2025 marked a historic day for the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) as it held its first-ever General Assembly at the Congressional Building, Visayas State University Isabel Campus. Students and faculty gathered with excitement as the newly established FET-SSC, formerly COET-SSC, laid out its plans, accomplishments, and fresh ideas for the academic year.

The assembly opened with a warm and thoughtful message from Engr. Richard Aballe, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, who set the tone for a productive and collaborative gathering. His remarks paved the way for discussions that tackled not only organizational matters but also the collective vision for the future of FET.

One of the key highlights was the presentation of the revised Constitution and By-Laws (CBL) by Ms. Rea Melody Alangcas, former COET-SSC President. Along the way, Mr. Jerome Anfone, member of the Committee on Student Welfare and Development and head of the Information Committee, engaged the assembly with options for the new FET-SSC logo. Although no design secured approval, the session sparked creativity, leading to the launch of a friendly logo-making competition open to all students.

Before moving forward to the next series of reports, the organizers energized the crowd with a fun icebreaker activity that got students interacting and uplifted the atmosphere. This refreshing break brought smiles and laughter, ensuring that the participants remained lively and engaged for the rest of the program.

Reports then continued with Ms. Geraldine Romano, FET-SSC Secretary, presenting the accomplishments of the previous administration. This was followed by the financial report from former Treasurer Ms. Michelle Ann Ybasan, providing a clear overview of the organization’s financial standing. Adding momentum, current Treasurer Ms. Eliza Mae Estoy unveiled academic year project proposals, which included membership guidelines, payment systems, and access to financial reports via Google Drive for transparency.

Student participation was at its peak during votations. Mr. Klint Lariosa led the approval of penalty fines for unauthorized parking, with an agreed ₱10 per violation and stricter measures for repeated offenses. Meanwhile, a proposed QR code–based attendance system by Mr. Anfone sparked lively debate, showing the students’ eagerness to ensure fair and efficient practices.

The different committees also brought forward creative and student-centered ideas:

 Income Generating Projects: water dispensers and printing services.

Justice: a suggestion box for transparency and accountability.

Environmental Protection and Sustainability: more trash bins around campus.

Academic Excellence: peer tutoring opportunities.

Social Welfare and Development: the construction of pathway sheds for student convenience.

The assembly also welcomed new voices and fresh suggestions, such as the call for a designated motorcycle parking area near the Congressional Building. These ideas reflected the students’ active role in shaping a better environment for the FET community.

The day ended with the singing of the VSU Hymn, leaving a strong sense of pride, unity, and commitment among students and faculty alike.

The first General Assembly was more than just a meeting; it was a celebration of leadership, collaboration, and community spirit, proving that the Faculty of Engineering and Technology is ready to face the future with both vision and action.
