Today, May 19, 2026, the Central Student Government and Office of the Office of Student Affairs and Services once again stand united in promoting kindness, respect, and a safe environment for everyone through 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗟𝗔𝗦𝗔 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝟯: 𝗔𝗻 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗶-𝗕𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗻.

Anchored on the theme, “Stand Against Bullying: Building a Culture of Respect and Kindness,” this initiative aims to raise awareness, strengthen support, and encourage every individual to become a voice against any forms of bullying.

SSU Pencak Silat Holds Successful Tryout Session for Aspiring Athletes

Sulu State University (SSU) Pencak Silat conducted a successful tryout session yesterday, beginning at exactly 4:00 PM, It aimed for selecting potential SSU Students for the Stalwart Pencak Silat Varsity. The event gathered aspiring Pesilat who formally registered in their preferred categories, with Tanding participants undergoing an official weighing procedure to ensure proper classification and fairness in competition.

To uphold credibility and objectivity in the selection process, two juries were present as evaluators of student performances: Mr. Hamdani Sabaddin and Mr. Mark Waren M. Vergara. While, Ms. Shar-ina Adus serves as the Dewan. Their expertise played a vital role in assessing the technical skills, discipline, and overall readiness of each participant.

The event was also graced by the presence of SSU Acting PESS Director, Mr. Nicholson A. Asmad, whose support highlighted the university’s commitment to strengthening its athletic programs and nurturing student-athletes.

Throughout the event, participants showcased not only their physical abilities but also their determination and willingness to earn a place in the varsity team. The tryout served as a platform for students to demonstrate their potential and embody the true spirit of being a Stalwart—strong in body, mind, and spirit.

The activity concluded successfully at 8:00 PM, marking the beginning of a new journey for those who aspire to represent SSU in Pencak Silat competitions.

𝗦𝗨𝗡𝗧𝗨𝗔𝗡 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲: 𝗞𝗘𝗬𝗡𝗢𝗧𝗘 𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗘𝗥

Sulu State University is honored to welcome Prof. Manuel “Manny” J. De Vera of the Asian Institute of Management as the Keynote Speaker for the Suntuan 2026: Student Leadership Summit.

Prof. De Vera is an Assistant Professor at the Asian Institute of Management and currently serves as the Executive Director of the AIM TeaM Energy Center for Bridging Leadership (AIMTEC-BL). A respected leader in development and public policy, he has played a vital role in shaping leadership programs that empower changemakers across sectors.

He holds a PhD in Development Studies from the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), University of Sussex (UK), a Master in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School, Harvard University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of the Philippines Diliman.

Since 2014, Prof. De Vera has overseen the development of the Future Bridging Leaders Program (FBLP) as its Program Director. Beyond academia, Prof. De Vera brings over a decade of experience in public policy design and implementation, working closely with leaders and institutions to drive meaningful and inclusive change.

We are thrilled to welcome the Future Bridging Leaders Program Alumni Association (FBLPAA) as our distinguished resource persons for Suntuan 2026: Student Leadership Summit. Bringing diverse expertise and real-world leadership experiences, the team will facilitate meaningful learning sessions designed to empower student leaders for greater impact.

Participants can look forward to engaging discussions on Organizational Planning, From Classroom to Community Leadership, and Design Thinking for Innovation and Social Impact, key themes that will equip students with practical tools to lead effectively within their organizations, campuses, and communities.
