RUNNING OUT OF LOVE BEFORE LOVE RUNS OUT: COGNIAS, SSS, JSWAP SOCIETY EMBARKS ON A FUN EVENT FOR THE CELEBRATION OF VALENTINES DAY.
Do you believe that Friday the 13th is unlucky?
Valentine’s Day is often imagined as a celebration of romancehearts as red as roses, couples strolling hand in hand, love letters folded with care. But what if love could be expressed not only through flowers and sweet words, but through action? What if love could be measured in miles, sweat, and solidarity?
On February 13, 2026, a day before Valentine’s festivities, Cogigatores Moderni Societaties (COGNIAS), Society of Social Scientist (SSS), Junior Social Worker Association of the Philippines (JSWAP) student-led organizations from the University of Southern Mindanao organized a meaningful and energetic. The fun run was assembled at the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) Grounds, and the running path navigates around the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) Campus. Bringing together students, facilitators, and even some faculty who joined the said event.
Despite the superstition surrounding Friday the 13th, the atmosphere was anything but unlucky. The campus grounds were alive with laughter, and shared purpose. Participants laced up their running shoes not merely for fitness or recreation, and the true essence of Valentine's.
Can love overcome all, even when it stretches across miles or kilometers? Perhaps the answer was visible that morning. As runners crossed the finish line, breathless yet fulfilled, they demonstrated that love is not passive. It moves. It persists. It endures distance.
In redefining Valentine’s spirit, but in the simple act of showing up, running forward and loving one another for a shared cause.
