For many aspiring teachers, the release of the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (LEPT) results is a moment marked by restless anticipation. It is a waiting game filled with silent prayers, anxious scrolling, and the fear of what comes next. For Kristel Clair T. Paltu-ob, that moment arrived while she was trying to distract herself by playing a video game on her phone. She was doing her best to keep her thoughts from spiraling as she waited for the results of the March 2026 LEPT. Then her phone began to light up with consecutive notificationsโ€”messages from friends, calls from review center staff, and tagged posts on Facebook. On May 12, 2026, when the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) officially released the list of passers, Kristel discovered that she had not only passed but had ranked 8th nationwide, securing her place among the countryโ€™s top-performing examinees.

Her first reaction was pure disbelief. โ€œHuh?โ€ was the only word she could utter as the news sank in. For a few moments, confusion overshadowed everything else. Then reality settled in, and with it came tears. She immediately shared the news with her boyfriend and her family, overwhelmed with gratitude and relief. Passing the boards had always been her goal, but not passing had also been one of her deepest fears. The thought of falling short had weighed heavily on her throughout the waiting period. To learn that she had not only passed but had earned a national ranking was something she described as an achievement she could never have reached without the support of the people who stood by her.

Kristelโ€™s journey toward this remarkable achievement was shaped by years of preparation and training gained through her Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) studies at Kabankalan Catholic College, Inc. (KCC). Looking back, she attributes much of her success to the strong academic foundation built within the institution. She credits the quality education and the guidance of her professors for helping solidify her knowledge and strengthen her confidence. Through years of rigorous preparation at KCC, she developed not only academic mastery but also the confidence needed to meet the challenge of the board examination head-on.

Yet even with academic excellence behind her, Kristelโ€™s journey was far from easy. One of the most difficult parts of her review period was navigating a painful personal loss. During the height of her preparation, she experienced being abandoned by someone she never expected would leave. The heartbreak made it difficult to focus and left her emotionally drained at a time when concentration was critical. There were days when the emotional weight felt heavier than any review material she had to study. What helped her overcome it was the unwavering support of her family, friends, and especially her boyfriend, whose presence gave her the strength to keep going. Their belief in her became the anchor that steadied her during one of the most challenging periods of her life.

Like many board examinees, Kristel also battled self-doubt. Despite graduating as Magna Cum Laude and hearing constant affirmations from those around her, she often questioned whether she was truly ready. People would tell her she was sure to pass and even predict that she would become a topnotcher. While flattering, those words also brought pressure. She worried about the possibility of disappointing not only herself but everyone who believed in her. Even moments before the results were released, she found herself wondering if her rating might fall just short of the passing mark. In the end, she carried both her fears and the hopes of those who believed in her into the examination room. Looking back, she is grateful for that faith because it pushed her to give everything she had.

Kristelโ€™s approach to studying was rooted in self-awareness. She understood early on that memorization was one of her weaknesses, so she adapted her preparation to match her learning style. She made sure to get enough sleep, knowing that rest improved her retention during drills and reviews. Rather than forcing herself into long, exhausting study sessions, she focused on studying when she felt mentally capable and motivated, often choosing concepts that genuinely interested her to sustain her focus. She believes that success in the boards is not about following someone elseโ€™s routine but about understanding what works best for your own mind. For her, developing analytical skills and metacognition proved especially crucial in mastering Professional Education (ProfEd) subjects.

For Kristel, the board exam and her national ranking are only milestones. What matters more is the kind of educator she aspires to become, a vision shaped by her years as a BEED student and her growing understanding of the true demands of education. She believes that teaching requires balanceโ€”the ability to be compassionate without becoming too lenient, patient without losing authority, and understanding while still maintaining discipline. To her, what truly defines an educator is the ability to believe in every learner, especially those who struggle to believe in themselves. She firmly believes that one teacherโ€™s faith in a student can become the turning point that helps that learner flourish.

This belief also shapes the advice she offers aspiring elementary educators. For Kristel, future teachers must focus first on building strong foundations for their students. Elementary education is where learners develop the habits, skills, and ways of thinking that will shape their academic journey for years to come. Because of this, she emphasizes the need for competence, patience, and compassion. Every learner is different, and some will require more guidance than others. She believes that impactful teaching is not measured solely by academic results but by the ability to help students grow as individuals.

Kristel hopes to use her achievement as a way to inspire future educators who may be doubting themselves. She wants others to know that uncertainty does not mean incapability and that determination, faith, and perseverance can carry someone farther than they imagine. More than the title of Licensed Professional Teacher or the distinction of being a topnotcher, she hopes to become the kind of educator who leaves a lasting mark on her studentsโ€™ livesโ€”the teacher who believed in them when they needed it most.

To current KCCians who dream of following in her footsteps, Kristel offers a message forged through both struggle and triumph: There will be moments of exhaustion, pressure, and doubt, but these should never be reasons to stop. She encourages students to trust the process, trust the foundation KCC is helping them build, and believe in themselves even when progress feels invisible. Her story stands as proof that greatness is not reserved for those who never doubted themselves, but often for those who kept moving forward despite their doubts.

Writers were given 60 minutes to produce an original and unpublished article based on different topics assigned to each section. Meanwhile, photojournalists were allotted 45 minutes to roam strictly within the campus area to capture moments while upholding journalistic standards, followed by another 15 minutes to select their top five best shots.

Broadcasters, on the other hand, were given six minutes to go through three different scripts written in Hiligaynon, Filipino, and English. They were then called one by one to deliver their scripts in front of the Chronicleโ€™s broadcasting team together with the Editor-in-Chief for immediate feedback and interview.

For years, thousands of women have carried a diagnosis that never fully explained what they were truly experiencing. Polycystic O***y Syndrome, more commonly known as PCOS, has long been one of the most misunderstood hormonal conditions affecting women worldwide. According to the World Health Organization, PCOS affects an estimated 8-13% of women of reproductive age globally, making it one of the most common endocrine disorders among women.

Yet despite its prevalence, its name has often failed to capture the full scope of the condition. Many patients diagnosed with PCOS do not actually present with ovarian cysts, making the term itself misleading. This is why growing discussions within the medical community about renaming the condition to Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS) deserve serious attention.

The proposed term reflects the condition more accurately than PCOS ever has. This syndrome is not simply about irregular menstruation or ovarian cysts. It affects multiple systems in the body, including hormonal balance, metabolism, insulin regulation, reproductive health, and mental well-being.

Research published through the National Library of Medicine shows that 50-70% of individuals with PCOS experience insulin resistance, including many who are not overweight. Beyond this, patients often struggle with weight fluctuations, acne, excessive hair growth, infertility, fatigue, anxiety, and depression. For many, the physical symptoms are only part of the burden; the emotional toll of delayed diagnosis and misunderstanding can be just as heavy.

Language matters in medicine far more than people often realize. The names assigned to illnesses shape public understanding, influence clinical approaches, and affect how patients perceive themselves. The term PCOS has often led people to assume the condition is solely gynecological, overlooking its broader endocrine and metabolic implications.

This misunderstanding has real consequences. Studies from the National Institutes of Health indicate that many patients consult multiple healthcare professionals before receiving a proper diagnosis. When a conditionโ€™s name fails to reflect its reality, symptoms are more easily dismissed, delayed, or misunderstood.

Critics argue that changing terminology risks creating confusion and that improving treatment access should remain the greater priority. They are not entirely wrong. Better healthcare systems, earlier screening, and stronger patient support matter deeply. But accurate language is not separate from these goalsโ€”it helps make them possible.
A name shapes awareness, and awareness shapes action.

Renaming PCOS would not solve every challenge patients face, but it could correct a decades-long misconception. It would encourage a broader understanding of the syndrome and remind both healthcare professionals and the public that this condition extends beyond reproductive health.

For students and young people especially, this conversation matters. Health literacy begins with accurate information. In an age where misinformation spreads quickly, understanding conditions like this means empowering individuals to recognize symptoms, seek medical guidance, and challenge stigma.

The push toward PMOS is not about making medicine sound more complex. It is about precision, recognition, and progress. If medicine is meant to evolve alongside scientific understanding, then its language must evolve too.

Because when a diagnosis finally reflects the reality patients live with, it does more than rename a condition

With these words, Senator Ronald โ€œBatoโ€ dela Rosa once again thrust himself into the national spotlightโ€”this time not for legislation or public policy, but for his dramatic return to the Senate ๐—ฎ๐—ณ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐˜€๐—ถ๐˜…

A former chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) under former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and a sitting senator since 2019, dela Rosa resurfaced amid escalating tensions in the Senate surrounding the impeachment proceedings involving Vice President Sara Duterte. His reappearance immediately drew public attention, not only because of its timing but because it reignited long-standing questions surrounding political loyalty, accountability, and the selective exercise of public duty.

For months, Senator dela Rosa had remained largely absent from Senate proceedings while reports circulated regarding possible legal action connected to the International Criminal Courtโ€™s investigation into the Duterte administrationโ€™s controversial war on drugs. Though he has framed his return as a fulfillment of his constitutional responsibilities as both senator and senator-judge, many Filipinos remain unconvinced.

The timing is difficult to ignore.

His return coincided with political shifts within the Senate, including leadership tensions that many observers interpreted as crucial to the outcome of the impeachment process. This has fueled speculation that his reappearance was less about constitutional obligation and more about political alignmentโ€”a move calculated to reinforce numbers and protect long-standing alliances.

In an interview with 24 Oras, dela Rosa defended himself by saying: "Hiyang-hiya na ako diyan sa mga kababayan natin na kini-criticize ako na tumatanggap daw ng sweldo kahit hindi nagtatrabaho, hindi nagpapakita. This is where the deeper problem in Philippine politics becomes impossible to ignore.

Too often, political loyalty appears to outweigh institutional integrity. Public officials are expected to serve the people, yet many continue to act first in defense of alliances, personalities, and political survival. Senator dela Rosaโ€™s return, regardless of his stated intentions, has become emblematic of a system where public trust is repeatedly tested by actions that appear more strategic than sincere.

The issue is no longer just about one senatorโ€™s absence or return. It is about a political culture that normalizes selective accountability and treats public office as a shield rather than a responsibility.

As the impeachment proceedings unfold, the Filipino people are watching closely.

What happens next will reveal whether the Senate remains an institution of justice and democratic accountabilityโ€”or whether it has become yet another arena where political protection takes precedence over the public interest.

In the end, this is more than a question of where Senator dela Rosa stands.

The world around me lay draped in shadows,
yet the streetlights held me gently against the weight of the night.
I found myself wondering why they continued to burn so faithfully,
standing like silent guardians along deserted roads and sleeping streets.

As I passed beneath each light,
it seemed to bear unspoken symbols and whispers of wisdom hidden within its glow.
Each glow urged me forward,
as if telling me to keep going no matter how long the road may be.

The roaring buses and blinking traffic lights
made the night feel even more lifeless.
But when I looked closer, I began to wonder
does it take more light for us to truly understand its meaning?

As I wandered beneath the weary glow of the streets,
I saw how the lamps stood silently exhausted
bearing the cruelty of scorching suns and relentless rains,
surviving only through the borrowed strength of light itself.

Some burned faintly, others shone with fierce brilliance,
yet each carried a quiet fire within its soul.
And perhaps, I realized, their beauty was never measured by how brightly they illuminated the road, but by how bravely they endured the storms just to continue shining.

And as I journeyed home beneath the fading night,
I came to realize that if the streetlights could withstand every storm that sought to dim their glow, why canโ€™t I?
Why am I still trapped in the past,
unable to move forward, while the future keeps waving for me to arrive?

Perhaps, in time,
everything will be fineโ€”
just as the streetlights continue to embrace their own light,
even in the middle of darkness.

Every journalist starts somewhere, and for former Editor-in-Chief Shannee Rose M. Lacson, it began with

As she shared her testimony during her time in The KCC Chronicle, Lacson reflected on how what once served as a personal escape eventually became a passion rooted in purpose and responsibility.

To aspiring campus journalists thinking of joining the Chronicle, Lacson leaves a reminder close to heart:
