Basil (𝘖𝘤𝘪𝘮𝘶𝘮 𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘮) is an upright herbaceous plant that can be grown as an annual or, in certain regions, as a short-lived perennial. It can reach as high as 50 cm and can grow even taller depending on the variety. Other types include sweet basil, Thai basil, lemon basil, and holy basil.

Here’s how to grow, harvest, and store Basil for the best flavor 👇

✅ 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 & 𝗦𝗼𝗶𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁

Mint is an aromatic herb valued for its cooling flavor and healing qualities. The leaves release a pleasant, sweet scent, and their essential oils provide a uniquely refreshing, cool taste. Mint is cultivated in various regions, including Canada, Europe, Britain, Australia, Japan, Africa, and New Zealand. Notably, India and China are the largest producers of mint oil in Asia.

To successfully grow your own mint, remember the following:

✅ 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 & 𝗦𝗼𝗶𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁
• Mint can thrive in both tropical and sub-tropical regions with temperatures ranging between 20°C-40°C, with a rainfall of 100-110 cm.
• The soil should be well-drained loam or sandy loam rich in organic matter, having a pH of 6.0-8.2. Red and black soil can be used, but it is recommended to apply lime when it is acidic, with a pH below 5.5.
• Avoid waterlogged soil. This may lead to poor growth or plant loss.
• Before planting, it is essential to analyze soil samples to assess fertility levels.

Ayusip (𝘝𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘶𝘮 𝘮𝘺𝘳𝘵𝘰𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘴 (𝘉𝘭𝘶𝘮𝘦) 𝘔𝘪𝘲.) or the Philippine Blueberry naturally grows in areas of high-elevation mossy forest that have high relative humidity, low temperature, and high rainfall. It requires a very acidic, well-drained soil with a pH of 4 to 5.5 for optimum growth, but it can grow broadly within 2.6 to 6.7 pH.

Since it prefers an acidic soil, it can be intercropped with Benguet Pine, with a recommendation of a planting distance of 3 m to 4 m distance from the tree. However, spacing should be farther when it's a bigger pine tree.

It should be remembered that Ayusip can be productive for a century if it is grown from seeds. Thus, it may no longer be productive if the pine tree grows big.
