"COMMUNICATION ETHICS: AN ONLINE CONTENT"

1. Does the post show supports or violates communication ethics such as: truthfulness, accuracy, freedom of expression, honesty, diversity of perspective etc? How and why?

• The post reflects a dual stance on ethical communication, demonstrating both support and violation. On the positive side, it acknowledges the importance of freedom of expression for humans to share thoughts, feelings, and ideas. However, it falters when it exceeds the boundaries of this freedom without thoughtful consideration of potential consequences. Upholding truthfulness, accuracy, and honesty in information-sharing is emphasized, as the dissemination of information holds the power to distort and impact communication dynamics. A critical scenario is highlighted, where breaching trust by spreading confidential information not only violates ethical communication but also erodes the foundation of trust with the individual who confided in you.

2. Does the post condemn communication, degrade individual, contain distortion coercion, violence and other related aspects? How and why?

• A person's personal information may be shared without that person's agreement, which is called in the post as "privacy invasion." These acts go against rules of respectful and ethical communication. The decision of what personal information to share and with whom is a right that belongs to each individual. The person affected may suffer hurting or feeling uneasy as a result of this invasion of privacy. Ethics in communication includes values such as fairness, equality, and respect for others. Part of this is being considerate of other people's privacy. Everyone has the right to their own personal space and information, therefore it's important to treat people how you would like to be treated.

3. Why does unethical communication threaten the quality of all communication, and consequently the wellbeing of individuals and society in which we live?

• In addition to undermining trust and distorting facts, unethical communication has the power to influence people's attitudes and actions. Communication becomes less successful when trust is lost, which impedes collaboration and teamwork in society. Through influencing decisions, spreading lies, and escalating societal divisions, misinformation distributed through unethical communication can be detrimental to both individuals and society as a whole. In general, dishonest communication erodes trust and distorts reality, endangering the wellbeing of individuals and communities as well as the quality of discourse.

4. What positive or negative consequences do you think may arise from this post?

• This post may bring about positive effects by serving as a reminder to safeguard sensitive information and privacy, fostering improved personal boundaries and self-protection through increased mindfulness about sharing. On the other side, potential negative consequences may arise from the post's lack of clarity, causing confusion or misunderstanding. Additionally, there is a risk of inducing fear or anxiety if individuals perceive a caution against sharing even harmless or positive information.

5. Why is it important to be ethical in communicating nowadays especially in the time where social media is trending?

• In the era of trending social media, the significance of ethical communication cannot be overstated. Social media not only influences our thought processes but also dictates our behavior and social interactions. Being ethical in communication is crucial because it underpins responsible thinking, decision-making, and relationship development across various contexts, cultures, and media channels. The core values of ethics, including honesty and truth, are essential for meaningful communication. Without these, communication is built on lies and distortions, jeopardizing the quality of human relationships and overall societal well-being. In essence, ethics in communication are vital not just for effective interaction but for maintaining healthy human connections and societal harmony.
