Ifugao State University (IFSU) officially opened its doors to scholars and student-researchers for the 6th International Undergraduate Research Congress this afternoon at the IFSU Heritage Convention Center.
Running from April 28โ30, 2026 in hybrid format, the Congress is anchored on the theme: โTransformative Futures 2026: Interdisciplinary Pathways toward Inclusivity, Sustainable Communities, and Global Collaboration.โ
In a message delivered by Executive Assistant Atty. Leah L. Rosario, IFSU President Dr. Eva Marie Codamon-Dugyon expressed deep gratitude for the vibrant gathering of academic institutions. She emphasized the power of synergy in the research field.
"Gatherings like this remind us that we do not walk this path alone," Dr. Dugyon stated.
"We learn from one another, grow together, and build connections that transcend institutions and nations. It is in these shared spaces that futures are transformed."
She further noted that in a global landscape demanding unity, research serves as a vital bridge connecting vision to reality. Through interdisciplinary engagement, Dr. Dugyon believes scholars can unlock solutions that are not only innovative but also compassionate and responsive to community needs.
Addressing the heart of the Congress, Dr. Dugyon offered words of encouragement to the delegates, urging them to view their work through the lens of impact.
โTo our student-researchers, your willingness to explore, question, and discover is both inspiring and hopeful,โ she remarked. โMay this congress affirm that your work matters, your ideas can spark change, and your voice has a place in the global conversation. Pursue research not just as an academic task, but as a meaningful journey of service and purpose.โ
The Opening Ceremony was highlighted by a runway show featuring IFSU student models. They showcased an array of locally woven fabrics, ranging from culturally inspired formal attire to contemporary everyday collections. The event also featured a cultural performance by Teatro Immipugo, the Universityโs performing arts group.
Reflecting on the cultural significance of the event, Jude C. Baggo, Director of the IRT-Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems Center, reminded participants that heritage is a universal language.
"There is no inferior and no superior culture," Baggo said. "Culture, by its nature, unites. This event not only sustains our academic rigor but expands our global network."
The Congress features a lineup of participating institutions, including Bulacan Agricultural State College, Mariano Marcos State University, Quirino State University, Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College, and Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges. Other notable attendees include Palawan State University, Philippine Normal University, Vietnam-based Can Tho University, and Indonesia-based Universitas Mahasaraswati Denpasar.//Faith B. Napudo
