𝗕𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗔 I MMSU Tertulyang Pangwika, itinampok ang paggamit ng AI sa pananaliksik sa Wikang Filipino

Isinagawa ng Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) sa pamamagitan ng College of Teacher Education (CTED), Sentro ng Wika at Kultura (SWK) at Center for Teaching Excellence ang Tertulyang Pangwika sa online na plataporma, upang talakayin ang wastong paggamit ng AI sa pananaliksik sa wikang Filipino noong Agosto 14.

Sa kanyang mensahe, binigyang diin ni Dr. Marlina Lino, Dean ng MMSU College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) ang kahalagahan ng pagpapanatili ng wikang Filipino sa gitna ng mabilis na pag-unlad ng AI.

"Sa panahon natin ngayon na ang AI ay mabilis na nagbabago sa paraan ng pagkatuto, pananaliksik, pakikipag-ugnayan, at paglikha ng kaalaman, mahalagang balikan ang puwesto ng ating wika sa mabilis na pag-unlad ng teknolohiya,” saad niya.

Binanggit naman ni CTE Dean Dr. Ronald Candy Lasaten na ang pagtitipong ito ay hindi lamang paggunita ng pagkakakilanlan, kundi isang pagpupulong ng kaisipan upang harapin ang hamon ng makabagong panahon.

Samantala, binuksan naman ni Dr. Jayson Petras, Associate Professor sa UP Diliman at Program Chair of Language and Literacy Education sa UP Open University, ang unang talakayan tungkol sa “Artificial Intelligence Bilang Kasangkapan sa Pananaliksik: Mga Oportunidad at Hamon sa Paggamit ng Wikang Filipino,” kung saan kanyang ibinahagi ang benepisyo at limitasyon ng paggamit ng AI habang binibigyang diin ang epekto nito sa pananaliksik.

Sinundan naman ng diskusyon ni Asst. Prof. Leonardo Tejano, MMSU Research Coordinator at Program Adviser ng Ilokano Studies sa MMSU Graduate School, ang ukol sa “Mapanuring Pananaliksik sa Panahon ng (Gen) AI”, kung saan kanyang ipinaalala ang papel ng etika, integridad, at kritikal na ebalwasyon ng impormasyon sa pananaliksik kalakip ng paggamit ng AI tools.

Inihayag naman ni SWK Chief, Dr. Maria Eliza Lopez na ang pag-organisa ng forum na ito ay upang bigyang pansin ang mga importanteng usapin sa AI, edukasyon, at pananaliksik. Bukod pa rito, layunin din nitong hikayatin ang mga mananaliksik sa paggamit ng wikang Filipino sa digital na mga plataporma.

Mahigit kumulang 178 ang dumalo sa forum kabilang na ang mga estudyante, g**o at mananaliksik mula sa iba’t ibang akademikong institusyon.

𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒 | 𝐂𝐓𝐄 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐬 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐚, 𝐔𝐦𝐚𝐲𝐤𝐚𝐧!

The Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) College of Teacher Education (CTE) held a culminating program and send-off party for four inbound Southeast Asian (SEA) teachers at the CTE Student Lounge on August 10.

The program celebrated the completion of a four-module Basic Oral Communication Immersion in Filipino and Ilokano for international students by four Southeast Asian (SEA) teachers: Muh. Fathir Farriz Ramadhan, Dean Amanda, Ananda Julia Refi Ramadhani, and Theresia Nova Ishfihani.

The immersion provided opportunities for the SEA teachers to engage with MMSU students through practical language activities and cultural exchanges. The four modules introduced everyday Filipino and Ilokano expressions related to greetings and self-introduction, emotions and preferences, asking for assistance, school-related information, directions, schedules, community transactions, and emergency situations.

Mr. Renan Flores, faculty from the Human Movement and Arts Education Departement (HMAED), sang for an intermission performance. The SEA teachers also presented a cultural number, giving the students an opportunity to learn from their guests and participate in a two-way exchange of language and culture.

During the program, the SEA teachers shared their experiences and learning from immersion. Their responses reflected the value of participating in classroom-based language activities and interacting with Filipino students in practical communication situations.
Dr. Maria Eliza S. Lopez, chief of the Sentro ng Wika at Kultura, delivered a message of gratitude during the event, recognizing the participation of the SEA teachers and the role of the students in language and cultural immersion.

Dr. Ronald Candy S. Lasaten, dean of MMSU-CTE, delivered an inspirational message, highlighting the importance of the program in promoting communication, cultural understanding, and international engagement among students and teachers.
The culminating activity served as both a send-off for the SEA teachers and a venue for MMSU students to apply their skills in cultural presentation, interaction, and language education.

The Mariano Marcos State University College of Teacher Education officially kicked off its month-long National Service Training Program Seminar-Lecture Series on August 1, 2026, bringing together field experts and over 800 student-trainees for an enriched learning experience.

Moving away from the traditional setup where NSTP facilitators headed by Mr. Romnick Agag and with the consultation from Dean Dr. Ronald Candy S. Lasaten, directly delivered the common module lessons, the college restructured the program to feature active practitioners from local government agencies and non-government organizations. This operational shift gives students firsthand insights grounded in professional experience, modern field practices, and community realities, while simultaneously strengthening the college's ties with vital nation-building stakeholders.

To maximize participation and interaction, the more than 800 enrolled NSTP students have been organized into three main learning clusters. Cluster 1 comprises three sections from the Bachelor of Elementary Education program. Cluster 2 brings together students from Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education alongside Bachelor of Technical-Vocational Teacher Education, Bachelor of Culture and Arts Education, and Bachelor of Physical Education. Cluster 3 consolidates trainees from Secondary Education as well as Early Childhood and Special Needs Education.
BTVTED 1A and 1B, BTLED 1 and 1B, BCAED 1A, BPED 1A (TVLED and HMAED Department).

Throughout the four-week engagement, invited agency experts share their core mandates, advocacy work, and real-world initiatives across six foundational modules. Drug Education is handled by experts from the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office, while Disaster Awareness, Preparedness, and Management is led by officers from the Bureau of Fire Protection Laoag City unit. Environmental specialists from DENR-PENRO Ilocos Norte address Climate Change and Environmental Protection.

To round out the curriculum, practitioners from the Philippine Red Cross Ilocos Norte Chapter were invited to discuss Volunteerism, National Security Concerns, and Peace Education, respectively. Meanwhile, Ms. Mei Angeline Aquino, former Gender and Development Focal Person of the college, leads the sessions on Gender and Development.

By connecting classroom concepts with practical application in disaster response, environmental stewardship, peace advocacy, and civic engagement, the lecture series aims to cultivate a stronger sense of nation-building among future educators.

𝐈𝐍 𝐏𝐇𝐎𝐓𝐎𝐒 | 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐉𝐄𝐂𝐓 𝐈𝐌𝐏𝐀𝐂𝐓

Mariano Marcos State University College of Teacher Education organized Project IMPACT, a skills training and livelihood program for the residents of Barangay 5, San Pedro, Laoag City, yesterday, August 12, 2026, at the CTEX Hall.

The morning schedule included presentations by university facilitators covering topics on sustainable futures, earring assembly, tote bag manufacturing, novelty item creation, and fabric printing techniques. Dr. Francisca S. Nicolas discussed opportunities for women and out-of-school youth during the first lecture session. Dr. Shery Ann P. Tumamao, Mrs. Alma C. Asuncion, Mrs. Jean A. Arellano, and Mr. John Ryane A. Laureta presented the technical processes for product design, material selection, and fabrication methods prior to an open forum.

During the afternoon workshop, participants engaged in hands-on practical sessions focused on button earring design, tote bag creation, key chain and magnet assembly, and fabric pressing.

Delivering messages and inspirational talks during the activity were MMSU Extension Director Dr. Marlowe U. Aquino, CTE Dean Dr. Ronald Candy S. Lasaten, CTE Extension Coordinator and Project Leader Dr. Imelda L. Najorda, and Barangay Captain Alfredo M. Peralta.
