After years of navigating the demands of campus journalism alongside the rigors of teacher education, The Ripple Editor-in-Chief John Warren Peneyra was named the 9th Most Outstanding Student Journalist of the Cagayan State University (CSU).

The results were officially released by the CSU Office of Student Welfare and Development (OSDW) yesterday, March 24.

Peneyra shared that there were moments when he nearly gave up, especially while balancing the demands of being an education student and a campus journalist.

โ€œThere are so many responsibilities to handle all at onceโ€ฆ I often feel pressured and confused about how to manage my time,โ€ he said, recalling the overwhelming demands of practice teaching alongside publication deadlines.

Despite these challenges, he remained steadfast, drawing strength from those who believed in him.

โ€œWhat kept me going were the people who believed in meโ€ฆ I hold on to their support as a reminder that I can do this,โ€ he said.

Beyond the title, Peneyra hopes his legacy will be defined by perseverance rather than accolades.

โ€œI would like to be remembered as someone who may not be the most intelligent student journalist on campus, but who possesses perseverance and determination, and who proves that these can take you far,โ€ he added.

Two fourth-year Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) major in English students were honored for excellence in leadership and campus journalism as the Office of the Student Welfare and Development (OSDW) released the official results of the 2026 Campus Search for Most Outstanding Student Organizations, Student Leaders, and Student Journalists.

Emerging as Most Outstanding Student Leader is Campus Student Council (CSC) President Jomar M. Godoy, while The Ripple Editor-in-Chief John Warren Peneyra was named Most Outstanding Student Journalist.

In an interview, Godoy highlighted the impact of student-centered initiatives during his term.

โ€œI am most proud of programs that helped students feel seen, involved, and united on campus,โ€ he said.

Peneyra, meanwhile, emphasized that journalism goes beyond intelligence and writing skills.

โ€œHindi sapat na matalino ka langโ€” kailangan mong hanapin at panindigan ang katotohanan,โ€ he noted.

He also underscored the value of continuous practice in honing journalistic skills, especially in competitive settings.

The annual search recognizes individuals and organizations who demonstrated exemplary performance in leadership, service, and campus journalism across the academic year.

NEWS | Rafael represents campus in 21st LHEPC, competes in Luzonwide tilt

After securing a podium finish in the regional qualifiers, Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) student and The Ripple Feature Editor Frances Lea G. Rafael represented the campus in the 21st Luzonwide Higher Education Press Conference (LHEPC) held at NGN Gran Hotel, Tuguegarao City, from March 17 to 19, 2026.

Rafael competed in the Pagsusulat ng Tula category, where top campus journalists from across Luzon converged to showcase their literary and journalistic prowess.

Entering the national stage following her third-place finish in the regionals, Rafael faced a wider and more competitive field, ultimately falling short of securing a spot among the winners.

Despite this, she emphasized that qualifying for LHEPC was already a milestone in itself.

โ€œBeing a LHEPC qualifier is already a victory, and it is truly a privilege to represent our campus,โ€ Rafael shared.

She further noted that beyond the competition, the experience allowed her to form meaningful connections and gain a deeper appreciation of the journey.

โ€œAlthough I didnโ€™t secure a place, I found something just as importantโ€” a space where genuine friendships were formed. For me, that makes this journey even more worthwhile,โ€ she added

The three-day conference gathered a total of 1,189 delegates from Luzon, including participants from Central Visayas. #
