LOOK : On July 18, 2026, the Bicol University Graduate School Students Alliance for Gender Equality paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Maria Jane B. Mascariñas, Dean of the Bicol University Graduate School. The meeting formally introduced the Alliance as a newly established student organization within the Graduate School and presented its mission, objectives, and commitment to promoting gender equality, inclusivity, and meaningful student engagement.

During the meeting, the officers also presented and discussed the Accomplishment Report for Academic Year 2025–2026, highlighting the organization's completed activities, initiatives, and achievements. The discussion provided an opportunity to update the Dean on the Alliance's accomplishments, receive valuable feedback, and strengthen collaboration with the Graduate School administration in support of the organization's future programs and initiatives.

With this year's theme, "𝘐𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘕𝘢𝘴𝘺𝘰𝘯, 𝘐𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘈𝘬𝘴𝘺𝘰𝘯: 𝘛𝘢𝘱𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘏𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘕𝘨𝘢𝘺𝘰𝘯!", 𝗕𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗹 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆, through the Center for Gender and Development, reaffirms its role and commitment to promoting human rights, gender equality, and safe, inclusive spaces in its academic community where every individual is protected from violence and exploitation.

Through gender-responsive education, reporting systems, partnerships, and community engagement, BU CGAD continues to strengthen awareness, advocate for the protection of vulnerable sectors, and build a culture of compassion, vigilance, and shared responsibility.

“The Bicol University Graduate School Students Alliance for Gender Equality proudly attended the 2025 MaGADyon Awards, themed ‘Lead Like Babaylan: Filipinas.’ The event celebrated the strength, leadership, and transformative roles of Filipino women, drawing inspiration from the babaylan as a symbol of empowerment, wisdom, and resilience.

Through their participation, the organization demonstrated its continued commitment to advocating for gender equality and women’s empowerment, aligning with the values highlighted during Women’s Month. The MaGADyon Awards served as a platform to honor outstanding Filipinas who have made significant contributions to their communities and various fields, inspiring the attendees to further promote inclusive leadership and social change.

The experience provided the members with valuable insights and motivation to strengthen their initiatives, reinforcing their role as advocates for safe, equitable, and empowering spaces for all.”

“In celebration of Women’s Month, the Bicol University Graduate School Students Alliance for Gender Equality conducted an extension project in Barangay Dap-Dap, Legazpi City, aimed at bringing the academe closer to the community. The activity was held in coordination with the barangay, headed by Barangay Captain Gleen J. Barcelon.

The program highlighted the significance of Women’s Month as a time to recognize women’s vital contributions to society and to promote gender equality, empowerment, and inclusivity. A key component of the activity was an engaging discussion on Republic Act No. 11313, or the Safe Spaces Act, which addresses gender-based sexual harassment in public spaces, workplaces, and educational institutions.

Participants actively engaged in interactive activities, open forums, and scenario-based discussions, showing enthusiasm and a deeper understanding of their rights and responsibilities under the law. Their participation reflected a growing commitment to fostering safe, respectful, and inclusive spaces within their community.”
