To the batch of conquerors that have beaten the odds, your triumphs light the way to new heights.
Dressed in their pristine gala uniforms with specks of gold illuminating the hall, the room was filled with a sense of pride and achievement. The candidates for graduation, radiating delight along with their loved ones, commemorated the culmination of their 2703 hours of Related Learning Experience (RLE) and the step closer to the beginning of their professional careers.
Bicol University College of Nursing (BUCN) Graduating Class of 2024, known as Batch โHelian,โ celebrated a significant milestone in the solemn Clinical Graduation and Ring Hop Ceremony yesterday, July 5, 2024, held at the Bulwagang BUeรฑo, Student Union Center.
After the graduates, parents, faculty, and esteemed guests marched down the aisle in the processional, Prof. Fatima B. Calingacion, Associate Dean of BUCN, opened the event with welcoming remarks, expressing her pride in the achievements of the batch. She highlighted the resilience and perseverance of the graduates, particularly in overcoming the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, such as the birth of distance learning and video recordings of return demonstrations which temporarily became the norm, where numerous stuffed toys served an unexpected purpose of becoming patients.
Afterward, on behalf of Dr. Jean Annette S. Ibo, BUCN Dean, Prof. Calingacion then presented the 154 candidates for clinical graduation, which comprised 37 males and 117 females. The graduates were confirmed by Dr. Baby Boy Benjamin D. Nebres III, SUC President IV, who also delivered an inspirational message.
In his address, Dr. Nebres commended the graduates for their hard work and commitment and encouraged them to continue embodying the attitudes necessary to building a sustainable society: flexibility, adaptability, resiliency, and compassion. In addition, he emphasized the roles of the graduates to become productive scholars with the heart of transformative leadership and collaborative service as they evolve and contribute to the community as the most competent and compassionate nurses.
The audience was taken on a nostalgic journey as Bianca Therese D. Rico, Level 4 Secretary, presented the class history. With an audiovisual presentation of the four blocks of Batch โHelianโ depicting their nursing journey playing in the background, she vividly recounted the experiences of the batch, recalling their hardships in adjusting to online learning from their early days in college to finally completing their required RLE amidst the challenging circumstances.
Following the presentation, Maria Hannah A. Llenarizas, Level 4 Vice President, introduced the keynote speaker, a BUCN alumnus, Mr. Kenn S. Nuyda, RN, Development Management Officer IV of the Department of Health Center of Health Development - Region V.
Mr. Nuyda, a respected mentor in the nursing community, empathized with the students as he talked about his fair share of hardships he faced in the institution, both physically and mentally. These, however, served as his โcore building blocksโ which only molded him towards becoming a competent nurse who bridges the gap between healthcare and the people. He also emphasized the importance of continuous learning and professional growth, urging the graduates to remain steadfast in pursuit of excellence, as the future of nursing lies in their ability to โadapt, collaborate, and lead.โ
In parting, he reminded the graduates of the utmost role they must fulfill. โ๐ ๐ฐ๐ถ ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ด๐ต ๐ข๐ฅ๐ท๐ฐ๐ค๐ข๐ต๐ฆ ๐ง๐ฐ๐ณ ๐บ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ณ ๐ฑ๐ข๐ต๐ช๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ต๐ด ๐ธ๐ช๐ต๐ฉ ๐ค๐ฐ๐ถ๐ณ๐ข๐จ๐ฆ ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ค๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ข๐ด๐ด๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ,โ ensuring that their voices are heard and their needs are met.
The event's highlight followed as the clinical graduates and their parents proudly ascended the stage for the imposition of rings and walked across the massive platform of a golden ring that symbolizes the end of their RLE journey. Assisted by the Level 4 Coordinator, Prof. Marimel S. Narvaez, they proceeded to the center towards Mr. Nuyda, Prof. Calingacion, and Prof. Daves Tonga, Dean of the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS), for the awarding of certificates among the 133 Cum Laude honorees and special citations.
The ceremony also featured the awarding of certificates of participation to the finalists of Clinical Excellence Awardee 2024, as well as the announcement of the Clinical Excellence Award recipient. This year, among the 13 contenders, the prestigious award, which includes a plaque and certificate, was given to Jasbeth R. So for her outstanding performance and dedication throughout her clinical exposure.
As the lights dimmed, a tribute video was played through the screen as snippets from each block showcased the memorable moments and achievements of Batch โHelian,โ highlighting their growth and camaraderie over the past four years during their time at BUCN.
Delivering her words of gratitude, Level 4 President, Joanna R. Buncaras expressed her appreciation to her batchmates, who, despite being the โexperimental batchโ have surpassed the hurdles and come out on the winning side. She also extended her gratitude towards the parents, professors, and clinical instructors, for shaping and nurturing them to become the future angels of the sickroom, and finally, to the Almighty God, for giving them the strength to overcome the challenges and setbacks encountered during their nursing journey.
To mark the end of the ceremony, Batch โHelianโ took the center stage as they sang and danced to the tunes of their batch song entitled, โJouRNeyโs Coreโ which is an original composition of the Level 4 graduates, arranged by Hans Noble, Level 3 student, followed by the singing of the BUCN Hymn and BU Hymn.
As a keepsake to remember, a photo opportunity per block with the BUCN faculty was conducted after the celebration, capturing the joy and fulfillment of the graduates upon taking another step towards becoming a full-fledged nurse.
Breaking their way into the professional world, Batch โHelianโ carries with them the knowledge, skills, and values instilled by their alma mater, ready to make a difference in their chosen field of expertise. Whether they illuminate the four corners of a hospital room, the community, or the academe, their dedication shines brightly, embracing the future of compassionate care. โShin Mi B.
