Representing PSU in this national initiative is Mr. Joseph Barrera, faculty member of the Social Work Department. His participation affirms the university’s commitment to advancing literacy, community engagement, and social protection initiatives at the national and regional levels.

The workshop aims to establish a pool of Resource Persons (RPs), standardize training designs, and formulate action plans for the effective implementation of the Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program across regions, including Region I.

The program implementation in Region I is being led by the DSWD Regional Program Management Office (RPMO), headed by:
• Mr. Pop John G. Selibio, PDO III, RPMO
• Ms. Mary Lovely Dela Cruz, Social Welfare Officer II, RPMO

The PSU representative worked in collaboration with fellow regional delegates, namely:
• Ms. Jo Ann Agonos, Extension Facilitator, College of Education – DMMMSU-MLUC
• Ms. Winda Mazon, Principal IV, DepEd SDO La Union
• Mr. Winton Sagun, EPS, DepEd SDO Pangasinan I

This multi-sectoral engagement highlights the collaborative efforts of higher education institutions, the Department of Education, and DSWD in strengthening community-based literacy interventions and ensuring program responsiveness to local needs.

The participation of PSU Social Work Department underscores its active role in extension services, capacity-building, and partnership development, contributing to inclusive and sustainable community development.

The department extends its sincere gratitude to the Campus Executive Director, Dr. Marie Claire B. Briones, and to the PSU Administration headed by University President Dr. Elbert M. The Social Work Department of Pangasinan State University – Lingayen Campus proudly participated in the 𝑷𝑨𝑺𝑾𝑰 𝑷𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒂𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒏 𝑮𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒍 𝑨𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒎𝒃𝒍𝒚 𝒄𝒖𝒎 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅 𝑺𝒐𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒍 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒌 𝑫𝒂𝒚 𝑪𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒃𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 held on March 17, 2026, at the Sison Auditorium, Lingayen, Pangasinan.

With the theme “Sama-samang Pagbuo ng Pag-asa at Pagkakaisa: Panawagan Pag-isahin ang Hating Lipunan”, the event honored the invaluable contributions of social workers in uplifting dignity and transforming lives. Our faculty, students, and field practitioners joined fellow professionals in celebrating the heroes behind the scenes who dedicate their lives to service and compassion.

Building on the resounding success of the 2025 implementation, the Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program officially entered its next phase on March 18, 2026, with a ceremonial Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing held at the Don Telesforo Boquiren Convention Hall. This milestone event solidified the tripartite partnership between the Deaprtment of Education (DepEd), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the Local Government Unit of Lingayen, and Pangasinan State University Lingayen Campus, marking a continued commitment to eradicating non-reading among elementary learners in the municipality.

The Social Work Department of Pangasinan State University actively participated in the outreach program “Healing Through Art, Music, and Conversation” in celebration of National Women’s Month, held on March 4, 2025 at The Haven – Regional Center for Women and Children.

Organized by the Gender and Development Unit under the leadership of Dr. Beverly Fernandez, the activity highlighted the university’s commitment to gender-responsive and community-centered service. Faculty members, together with Dr. Claro Sison, Dr. Romary Lincod, and Dr. Cristie Marie Dalisay, facilitated therapeutic and engaging sessions that provided women and children a safe space for expression, healing, and empowerment through art, music, and meaningful dialogue.

The department extends its sincere gratitude to the organizers and to The Haven – Regional Center for Women and Children for this meaningful endeavor, fostering compassion, resilience, and hope among the participants.
