Batangas State University – The NEU Lipa Campus successfully conducted 𝐒𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐏𝐄𝐍 𝟒.𝟎: 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫-𝐖𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 with the theme “𝑹𝒂𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝒂𝒓: 𝑺𝑯𝑨𝑹𝑷𝑬𝑵𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑬𝒙𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒎𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑰𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒕𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑬𝒏𝒅𝒐𝒓𝒔𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕”, a program designed to refine and align proposed PPAs (Programs, Projects, and Activities) with the University’s extension agenda through guided mentoring, structured presentations, and technical critique sessions.

During SHARPEN 4.0, campus officials highlighted how the initiative provides a valuable opportunity to refine extension program proposals—calibrating objectives, ensuring feasibility, and elevating quality—while emphasizing the importance of meaningful service that reaches underserved communities and transforms lives. This shared vision was expressed by 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐲. 𝐀𝐥𝐯𝐢𝐧 𝐑. 𝐃𝐞 𝐒𝐢𝐥𝐯𝐚, University Chancellor; 𝐃𝐫. 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐬 𝐆. 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐳𝐨𝐧, Vice Chancellor for Research, Development, and Extension Services; and 𝐌𝐫. 𝐑𝐞𝐱𝐨𝐧 𝐒. 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐳, Head of the Extension Service Office.

The impact was felt not only by the speakers but also by the participants. In the post-activity survey, one attendee shared that the training was especially helpful because it guided them on how to effectively propose extension programs—proof that SHARPEN 4.0 is paving the way for stronger, purpose-driven initiatives.

The initiative serves as a vital component in the rehabilitation and reintegration of parolees and probationers. This program centers on the philosophy that family remains the essential foundation for personal growth, utilizing communication, empathy, and trust-building as primary tools for successful community reentry.

The centerpiece of the event was a comprehensive discussion titled“𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒅𝒈𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝑯𝒐𝒎𝒆: 𝑹𝒆𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑 𝑹𝒆𝒃𝒖𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒎 𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝑭𝒂𝒎𝒊𝒍𝒚 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏,” presented by 𝑫𝒓. 𝒀𝒐𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒂 𝑳. 𝑷𝒂𝒔𝒊𝒂, Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). Dr. Pasia provided participants with practical, actionable approaches to restoring fractured family connections while emphasizing that second chances are most effective when backed by a stable and loving home environment. The discussion focused on essential interpersonal skills such as active listening to ensure family members feel validated, conflict resolution strategies for navigating disagreements without damaging the family bond, and emotional awareness to foster healthy interactions.

𝑴𝒓. 𝑹𝒆𝒙𝒐𝒏 𝑺. 𝑯𝒆𝒓𝒏𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒛, Head of Extension Services, set a tone of impactful transformation during the program’s opening. This was followed by 𝑫𝒓. 𝑴𝒚𝒓𝒂 𝑨. 𝑩𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒐𝒕𝒐, CAS Extension Coordinator, who emphasized the indispensable roles of compassion and continuous support in the journey of rebuilding lives. To conclude the session, 𝑴𝒔. 𝑱𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒄𝒂 𝑺𝒂𝒎𝒔𝒐𝒏, Parolee and Probation Officer I, challenged participants to apply the insights gained from Dr. Pasia’s session to actively reclaim their roles within their families and communities as a final step toward full social rehabilitation.

This extension project underscores the university's proactive role in social advocacy and nation-building. This successful training was made possible by the groundwork established during the field visit on February 20, where the team conducted checking, testing, and calibration of Arduino kits—including sumo bots and line-tracing robots—to ensure full functionality and readiness. The visit reinforced the shared commitment to provide quality technical assistance and deliver a seamless, hands-on learning experience.

On February 20, 2026, the Extension Service Office, College of Arts and Sciences, and the Lipa City Parole and Probation Office, together with the National University Lipa - Community Extension, carried out Ladderized CARE: Project RISE-UP 2.0.

The program formally opened with the program introduction and inspirational message delivered by 𝑫𝒓. 𝑴𝒚𝒓𝒂 𝑨. 𝑩𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒐𝒕𝒐, setting a positive and encouraging tone for a day focused on personal growth, healing, and renewed purpose.

The first activity was facilitated by 𝑴𝒔. 𝑱𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒄𝒂 𝑺𝒂𝒎𝒔𝒐𝒏, where participants were asked to write their thoughts and reflections on pieces of paper and post them on a shared wall—allowing everyone to express their feelings, insights, and aspirations in a collective and supportive space.

This was followed by the second interactive activity led by 𝑫𝒓. 𝑴𝒚𝒓𝒂 𝑨. 𝑩𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒐𝒕𝒐, which further strengthened self-awareness, reflection, and meaningful engagement among the participants, with a focus on gender sensitivity and inclusive participation.

Through these activities, the project continued to promote holistic reintegration by strengthening identity, purpose, and inner resilience.

Held on December 4, 2025, a meaningful collaboration between the Extension Services Office, Office of Guidance and Counseling, College of Arts and Sciences, and the Lipa City Parole and Probation Office brought to life the Reclaim and Renew Wellness Workshop under the Ladderized CARE Program.

The program opened with welcome remarks from 𝐃𝐫. 𝐌𝐲𝐫𝐚 𝐀. 𝐁𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐭𝐨, setting the tone for guidance, growth, and supportive spaces where individuals can continue learning. This was followed by an opening prayer and the national anthem. 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜. 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚 𝐋𝐮𝐜𝐢𝐚 𝐀. 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐥 introduced the program, paving the way for a day centered on resilience and growth. An inspirational message from 𝐌𝐬. 𝐀𝐝𝐚 𝐋𝐮𝐢𝐬𝐚 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐳𝐨𝐧 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐚 encouraged participants to embrace every small step toward healing and transformation.

The highlight of the workshop was the compelling talk by 𝐃𝐫. 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐬 𝐆. 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐳𝐨𝐧 on 𝙆𝘼𝙏𝙍𝙊𝙋𝘼: 𝘼𝙣𝙜 𝙈𝙖𝙠𝙖𝙗𝙖𝙜𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙈𝙖𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙤𝙤. He emphasized the vital role of fathers—not only as providers, but as protectors, nurturers, and pillars of understanding—encouraging men to break free from outdated stereotypes and lead with empathy and respect.

The session continued with a reflective roadmap activity facilitated by 𝐌𝐬. 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚 𝐋𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐆. 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐚 and 𝐃𝐫. 𝐌𝐲𝐫𝐚 𝐀. 𝐁𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐭𝐨. Participants received printed roadmaps and were guided to fill them with words that captured their feelings and milestones along their journey. By putting emotions into words, they acknowledged struggles, celebrated victories, and recognized their personal growth in a safe and supportive space.

This activity embodies the spirit of the WE GROW initiative—supporting holistic reintegration by nurturing wellness, identity, and purpose from within.

Through interactive discussions, practical exercises, and real-life examples, participants explored the essentials of tax compliance — including the proper use of the Book of Accounts, understanding the BMBE Act, and following step-by-step procedures for filing taxes — highlighting how tax awareness empowers entrepreneurs to manage their ventures responsibly, reduce risks, and make informed decisions that foster confidence, accountability, and long-term growth.
