The stage bursted into a fluid of colors as students stepped forward, costumes flashed under the lights, and feets moved to the rhythm.

The LCC Silvercrest Senior High School Department hosted a Katutubong Sayaw Competition in line with the Buwan ng Wika to showcase the traditional dances made by our ancestors. It was performed by Grade 11 and Grade 12 students from various strands and clusters at the Carlos R. Mojaress Gymnasium on Aug. 28, 2026.

Seven competitors took the spotlight, each bringing a different traditional dance to life. ABM 12 performed Banga, while ASSH 11 showcased Singkil. STEM 12 presented Kappa Malong-Malong, and HE ICT 12 brought energy through Binasuan. HUMSS 12 performed Lapay Bantigue, while BE 11 took on the challenge of Tinikling. Meanwhile, STEM 11 performed Pangalay. Each gave their all to deliver a performance enough to take the audience's breath away.

When the final performances of Katutubong Sayaw ended, the winners were announced: STEM 11 Pangalay dance claimed first place, BE 11 Tinikling dance secured second, and STEM 12 Kapong Malong Malong dance took third. Yet, beyond the rankings, every group had already achieved something important; they made the Filipino culture visible, vibrant, and alive through traditional dancing.

But the competition was more than colorful costumes and synchronized steps. The performers turned the stage into a living display of Filipino heritageโ€”filled with graceful movements, lively rhythms, and the excitement of seeing traditions recreated by the younger generation.

With every stomp, twirl, clap, and leap, the students proved that heritage does not belong only in history books. Sometimes, it belongs on a stageโ€”where it can be danced, celebrated, and enjoyedโ€”a reminder that the Filipino culture will always live within our hearts.

Despite two consecutive power interruptions, the third-year student nurses of Lipa City Colleges gathered at the LCC Silvercrest Auditorium today, August 26, 2026, for the inaugural RLE Competency Demonstration for junior level involving; Perioperative Nursing Care, Nasogastric Tube Insertion, and Tracheostomy Care. This hands-on learning experience provides student nurses with an opportunity to apply their knowledge and develop essential skills in preparation for their upcoming clinical rotations, equipping them with the confidence needed to navigate real-world clinical settings.

The demonstration was led by Sir Eldred Jed Mata, RN, MSN(c), MBA(c), who shared his valuable experiences in the operating room as a student nurse and how these experiences shaped him into the professional he is today. He also shared the unfiltered realities to expect in the field, emphasizing that social media humor surrounding sterility should not be treated as merely funny, but rather as a serious matter in the operating room.

โ€œBreaking the integrity means predisposing the patient to risk and harmโ€, he affirmed.

Sir Mata began the formal discussion by introducing the members of the sterile and unsterile teams, focusing on the roles and responsibilities of each professional. He also discussed the dos and donโ€™ts in the operating room and instilled in the students the importance of strictly adhering to established protocols.

The discussion continued with the Asepsis and Sepsis techniques, followed by a demonstration of proper surgical scrubbing, in which the students were encouraged to actively participate. He added the importance of maintaining sterility throughout the process, reminding the students that proper handwashing follows a specific sequence and that certain steps should not be repeated to prevent compromising sterility.

With the assistance of Sir Randy Vergara, RN, LPT, the team proceeded to demonstrate the proper surgical donning and gloving techniques, highlighting the distinct roles of the circulating nurse, scrub nurse, and even the surgeon.

Next, Sir Vergara and Sir Mata introduced the students to common operating room instruments, discussing the function and proper use of each. Drawing from his years of experience as an operating room nurse, Sir Vergara highlighted the importance of distinguishing between instruments that may appear similar, properly giving of instruments, and knowing whether the surgeon is left- or right-handed, which ensured the coordinated workflow of the operation.

Following the discussion, Sir Mark Joseph Lamoriza, CMHA, SO1, PHRN, USRN, MAN(c), and Maโ€™am Melinda Baijo, MAN, RN, demonstrated the proper technique for inserting a nasogastric tube in a patient. Sir Lamoriza reminded about properly verify the patientโ€™s identity and obtain informed consent before proceeding, since NGT insertion is an invasive procedure.

He also emphasized key precautions, including checking the NGTโ€™s accessibility, assessing for possible allergies to silicone, polyurethane, and latex, ensuring proper patient positioning, and conducting a nursing assessment before insertion. He then introduced the materials required for the procedure.

โ€œWe have the N-E-X, or from the Nose tip to the Ear lobe to the Xiphoid processโ€, Sir Lamoriza stated as he shared the mnemonics for getting the length of the NGT to be inserted.

After explaining the proper procedure, a video demonstration was shown to provide the students with a clearer visualization of the skill. The session then proceeded to a discussion on tracheostomy care and suctioning led by Sir Vergara.

In his concise discussion, Sir Vergara emphasized the importance of assessing the stoma for signs of infection, as additional intervention may be necessary. He repeatedly highlighted the rationale behind maintaining sterility during the procedure, stressing the need to strictly follow the proper steps and use appropriate materials in tracheostomy care.

โ€œRegular gauze should not be cut since loose fibers
may enter the airways,โ€ he explained.

The session concluded with a video reinforcing the discussions, followed by Sir Mataโ€™s reminder for the students to study the lessons and await the schedule of their upcoming return demonstrations.

For All That It Took

Getting here was not easy, it will never be.

Before the exam halls, answer sheets, and the two letters awaiting at the end of this chapter, there were years of choosing to resume, even when it was the hardest thing to do. To our PNLE Takers 2026, this is for every sleepless night you encountered.

For every version of you that almost quit, but kept going.
There were days when Nursing felt heavier than you ever imagined. Days when the pages blurred from tears, when one more lecture felt impossible, and when a low score made you question your overall ability. There were moments when you asked yourself โ€œAm I really made for this?โ€ But somehow, despite the doubts, fatigue, and fear, you opened another page, answered another question, attended another review, and tried again. That version of you whom they did not witness is a testimony itself.

For every night you thought you couldnโ€™t, but did.
Behind every reviewer is a night that stretched longer than it should have. Every concept studied through drowsy eyes equates to numerous sacrificed sleep, comfort, personal time, and sometimes even fragments of your own self to keep your dream within reach. Trust that none of these nights are wasted.

For everything that brought you here.
Think of the person who first stepped in nursing school carrying the dream without knowing how difficult the journey would become. All the first-time lecture, return demonstration, clinical duty, and other academic responsibilities that made you question your major decision of pursuing this profession. Throughout the years, mistakes were made, lessons were learned, and realizations hit you. You are no longer the same person who entered this life chapter. You have grown into someone more capable of carrying something bigger than a title.

So, padayon.

You have studied for this. You have worked hard for this. You have waited patiently for this.

To the PNLE Takers 2026, Batch Novaria, may you walk into the examination room with hope, carrying not only your knowledge, but every version of yourself who pushed through.

And when the day finally comes, may the two letters youโ€™ve been praying for find its way beside your name.
