Beyond Advocacy

SAN MIGUEL, CATANDUANES – Last Saturday, November 22, 2025, the Pi Sigma Fraternity - CatSU Chapter and the CatSU College of Law successfully launched a significant relief operation titled "Beyond Advocacy: Immediate Relief, Lasting Hope for Catanduanes." The much-needed outreach provided immediate assistance to hundreds of families heavily affected by recent calamities in the province.

The event, held at the San Juan Elementary School in San Miguel, Catanduanes, was also made possible through the generous financial support of the Pi Sigma Fraternity - UPLB Chapter.

🤝 A Sigman's Call to Action
One of the driving forces behind the initiative was Sigman Glenn Paul Lopez, an alumnus of the UPLB Chapter and a convenor of the emerging CatSU Chapter. Mr. Lopez shared that he specifically flew back to Catanduanes to personally help launch the outreach program and extend aid to those impacted by typhoons Tino and Uwan.

"Seeing the devastation caused by the typhoons, we knew we had to act quickly and decisively," said Mr. Lopez. "This operation is a testament to the commitment of the Pi Sigma Fraternity and the CatSU College of Law to serve the community, especially in times of great need. It's about bringing immediate relief while fostering a sense of lasting hope."

🍚 Hundreds Receive Essential Aid
Hundreds of households from the surrounding communities gathered over the weekend to receive essential food packs and supplies generously donated by the members and supporters of the Pi Sigma Fraternity and the CatSU College of Law.

The lines of beneficiaries, though long, were filled with palpable relief and gratitude. Families expressed their profound thanks to the organizers and volunteers who dedicated their time and resources to the effort.

"We are so happy and thankful that they came here to help us," shared one of the recipients, a mother of three. "The typhoons took so much, and this food will really help us get through the next few days."

✨ A Tradition of Service
This joint relief mission highlights the deep-seated spirit of volunteerism and community service championed by both the Pi Sigma Fraternity—known for its commitment to Service, Scholarship, and Sisterhood/Brotherhood—and the CatSU College of Law, which instills the value of justice and social responsibility in its future legal practitioners.

The success of the "Beyond Advocacy" operation serves as a powerful example of how academic and fraternal organizations can effectively mobilize resources to provide critical support to disaster-stricken communities in Catanduanes.

Labanan ang Korapsiyon! Sugod tayo sa Luneta sa Linggo 9am! Kita kits mga kapatid!

𝗕𝗮𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗞𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗽 𝗻𝗮 𝗦𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗮!

“𝗪𝗮𝗸𝗮𝘀𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗞𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗽𝘀𝘆𝗼𝗻! 𝗜𝗽𝗮𝗴𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗸𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘆𝗮! 𝗡𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗟𝗮𝘄!”

*UPLB Pi Sigma Fraternity and Pi Sigma Delta Sorority Nurture Future with Tree Planting at Mt. Makiling*

In a heartwarming display of environmental stewardship and brotherhood, members of Pi Sigma Fraternity and Pi Sigma Delta Sorority of the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) came together to plant 27 molave seedlings at the Dampalit Creek, located at the foot of Mt. Makiling, yesterday.

The event, part of the organizations' extension program to the community and environment, aimed to give back to nature while symbolizing the fraternity's roots and values. The molave tree was chosen specifically because it represents the humble beginnings of Pi Sigma Fraternity, which was founded in the Molave Dormitory at UP Diliman.

The number 27 holds significant meaning, representing the 17 founders of the fraternity in UPLB and the 10 founders of the sorority in UPLB. This symbolic gesture serves as a reminder of the organizations' commitment to nurturing not just their members, but also the environment that sustains them.

This initiative is also part of the annual nationwide tree planting project led by the Pi Sigma Fraternity Alumni Association (PSFAA) Inc., which is being implemented in various locations across the country, including Pampanga, Pangasinan, and Metro Manila.

Through this event, the Pi Sigma Fraternity and Pi Sigma Delta Sorority of UPLB reaffirm their dedication to environmental conservation and community service, inspiring others to join them in making a positive impact on the world around them.

*special thanks to DENR PENRO Laguna for the seedlings
