Honoring 50 Years of MNH Explorations: IBS Joins the UPLB Museum of Natural History's Golden Anniversary.

The Institute of Biological Sciences (IBS) extends its warmest congratulations to the UPLB Museum of Natural History on celebrating 50 years of outstanding dedication to natural history and scientific discovery.

In support of this milestone, IBS faculty, staff, and students were privileged to participate in the MNH’s anniversary events held from 28-30 September 2026, at the University of the Philippines Los Baños:

- IBS artists shared their artworks in the Sining-Buhay 2.0 exhibit and featured creations in the event merchandise booths.
- IBS faculty members were also featured in the film showing of “Tapulao: A Mountain to Protect,” a film by Caroline Breton.
- Researchers from the institute also presented their research findings on cave and karst ecosystems in the Philippines through oral and poster presentations at the CLADES 2.0 Conference.

The IBS community celebrates this momentous 50th anniversary with the UPLB Museum of Natural History and looks forward to continuing our shared mission of research and conservation of Philippine Biodiversity.

🌍🌱 IBS at ICCR 2026

What a wonderful experience! IBS proudly shared its expertise on the international stage at the recent International Conference on Climate Resilience 2026 (ICCR 2026). Held on September 29-30, 2026, at the Partido State University Auditorium in Goa, Camarines Sur, Philippines, the conference brought together people committed to building a more climate-resilient future. Our deputy director, Associate Professor Ivy Amor F. Lambio, represented the institute at the event.

IBS is pleased to be part of this timely platform for climate resilience research, collaboration, and action. 🌏💚

UPLB Museum of Natural History's 𝗖𝗟𝗔𝗗𝗘𝗦 𝟮.𝟬 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 is just right around the corner! In one week, more than 50 presentors will share their research findings related to our conference themes! Here, we introduce some of them!

𝗥𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗹𝗼 𝗝𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗗. 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀, PhD, M.Eng., RMicro, TM is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Biological Sciences, University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), and a scientist, educator, researcher, science communicator, and sports and arts advocate. Born in San Pablo City and raised in Los Baños—the “City of Seven Lakes” and the “Special Nature and Science City of the Philippines”—he developed an early appreciation for science, nature, and their role in society. Dr. Flores has contributed to pioneering efforts to advance Planetary Health in the Philippines, promoting transdisciplinary approaches that link environmental integrity, biodiversity, agriculture, and human health. His research interests include microbial ecology, taxonomy, molecular biology, biotechnology, glycobiology, and omics. He is involved in research on emerging pathogens in aquatic and aquaculture environments, the Seven Lakes of San Pablo, milkfish exposomics, cave microbiology and biotechnology, antimicrobial resistance, biobanking, and One Health. He earned his PhD in Engineering (Advanced Science and Biotechnology) from Osaka University, where he studied N-glycosylation in basidiomycetous yeasts. He is a Registered Microbiologist and is affiliated with several professional and scientific organizations. He serves as International Relations Officer of the UPLB Graduate School and contributes to international projects on food security, climate change, environmental leadership, and One-Planetary Health. A passionate science communicator, he co-hosts PAK! Para sa Agrikultura at Kalikasan on Radyo DZLB Online. Beyond research and teaching, Dr. Flores is an artist, sports coach, and advocate for student-athletes. He is the founding Director of the UPLB Office for Athletics and Sports Development, where he promotes the integration of sports, ecology, wellness, education, and holistic student development.
