Research and Development Management Program of FMDS, UPOU The Diploma in Research and Development Management (DR&DM) is a post-baccalaureate program primarily directed toward managerial leadership development.

UP Open University Faculty of Management and Development Studies is offering two post-graduate programs on R&D -- the Diploma in Research and Development Management (DR&DM) program and the Master of Research and Development Management (MR&DM) program It prepares students to be professional managers of organizations/systems engaged in R&D and technology development and utilization. The DR&DM is des

igned to enhance knowledge and skills in planning R&D programs, developing and promoting technologies for utilization, and managing human and organizational relations in R&D systems. The program aims to enable students to:
1. Demonstrate enhanced managerial leadership with an R&D-oriented perspective; and
2. Influence and transform R&D organizations to be productive, dynamic, cost-effective, environmentally adaptive, socially relevant, and development-oriented.

The Master of Research and Development Management (MR&DM) is a flexible and fully online graduate program designed to develop knowledge and skills in effective leadership of government and private R&D organizations and research funding institutions. The specialized curriculum covers the development, management, and implementation of research initiatives, including developing research collaborations and partnerships, proposal preparation and submission, contracts negotiation and management of research projects, financial management, technology commercialization, intellectual property rights, and compliance with government regulations and policies. The MR&DM program aims to produce graduates who are able to:

1. Demonstrate enhanced managerial leadership with an R&D-oriented perspective in organizing,
directing, monitoring and evaluating R&D organization;
2. Influence the transformation of R&D system as a productive, dynamic, cost-effective,
environmentally adaptive, socially relevant, ethical and development-oriented organization; and
3. Lead in implementing strategic R&D management innovations in technology generation,
commercialization, and societal development

Can local legislation be a catalyst for agricultural innovation?

UPOU MR&DM Student Advocates for Evidence-Based Agricultural Policies at International Conference

Joe Anthony P. Claus, a student from the Master of Research and Development Management (MR&DM) program at the UP Open University (UPOU), presented his qualitative study at the International Conference on Agriculture and Plantation Management 2025 in Sri Lanka. His research, titled “Surfacing R&D in the Legislative Process,” offers an ethnomethodological analysis of a city government's committee hearing on an agricultural ordinance. The study introduces an innovative framework for integrating research and development into local policymaking, emphasizing the importance of empirical evidence and participatory engagement. Claus credits UPOU-FMDS for the interdisciplinary training that enriched his research.
