The "Transforming Mango Production through IPM and Smarter Pesticide Use in Southeast Asia and Australia" project recently held its inception meeting and inaugural event at the College of Public Affairs and Development (CPAf)-UPLB last September 20-23, 2026. Over four days, project leaders and staff from partner institutions engaged with mango farmers during its field visit, reviewed planned activities, finalized project sites and responsibilities, and built a shared understanding of the project’s goals. 🥭
The four-year Mango-IPM project (HORT/2022/125) is a co-investment of the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) and the Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST PCAARRD). It is led by the The University of Queensland in collaboration with Indonesia’s Universitas Gadjah Mada, National Research and Innovation Agency Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional (BRIN), Directorate General of Horticulture (Kementerian Pertanian Republik Indonesia), alongside Philippine partners CPAf-UPLB, the UPLB Institute of W**d Science, Entomology and Plant Pathology (IWEP) of the College of Agriculture and Food Science (CAFS), and the Department of Agriculture–Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI).
The initiative aims to develop, validate, and scale context-appropriate strategies that reduce pesticide overuse and accelerate the adoption of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in mango systems in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Australia.
As part of this collaboration, CPAf-UPLB reaffirms its commitment to advancing transdisciplinary research for development, by bringing together science, policy, and practice.
