𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞: 𝗨𝗣𝗟𝗕 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗽. 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗟𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄+ 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆

The University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) and Adatech Biosciences Corp. (Adatech) signed a non-exclusive licensing agreement on authorizing Adatech to commercially produce, market, and distribute 𝙏𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙂𝙧𝙤𝙬+ technology in designated regions of the Philippines.

The signing took place during the 19th Anniversary Celebration of the UPLB Technology Transfer and Business Development Office (TTBDO) on 𝟮𝟰 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲.

Chancellor Jose V. Camacho, Jr. represented UPLB, while President Edrick C. De Guzman represented Adatech. They were joined by Vice Chancellor for Innovation and Enterprise Management (OVCIEM) Dr. Haerold Dean Z. Layaoen and TTBDO Director Atty. Melo Jean T. Triños-Peralta, together with Mr. Jonnbel Abad of Adatech, who served as witnesses to the agreement.

𝗨𝗣𝗟𝗕 𝗧𝗧𝗕𝗗𝗢 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗨𝗣𝗟𝗕 𝗡𝗖𝗣𝗖 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝗣 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿

On 19 October 2026, the UPLB Technology Transfer and Business Development Office (TTBDO), in collaboration with the UPLB National Crop Protection Center (NCPC), conducted the seminar “IP in Focus: Protecting Research, Powering Innovation” at the NCPC Auditorium. The event was attended by NCPC research, extension, and professional staff (REPS), ICS, and administrative staff.

Dr. Michelle Guerrero (NCPC Deputy Director) provided an overview of the seminar, while Ms. Krixlyn Escosura (TTBDO Project Technical Assistant) delivered the opening remarks on behalf of Atty. Melo Jean T. Triños-Peralta (UPLB TTBDO Director).

Ms. Cathrene Amante (TTBDO University Extension Specialist) introduced the basics of intellectual property (IP), including copyright and related rights. This was followed by a discussion of trademarks and geographical indications led by Mr. Nigel John Casido (Senior Research Associate).

Ms. Escosura then discussed patents, utility models, industrial designs, trade secrets, and layout designs of integrated circuits. Meanwhile, Ms. Geri Margarette Perez (TTBDO Project Technical Assistant) discussed technology transfer and the UP Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Policy.

The seminar concluded with a question-and-answer session, during which participants explored potential IP applications relevant to their respective research activities.

𝗨𝗣𝗟𝗕 𝗧𝗧𝗕𝗗𝗢 𝗷𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗥𝗦𝗧𝗪 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

On 12-14 October 2026, the UPLB Technology Transfer and Business Development Office joined the Southern Tagalog Consortium for Industry, Energy, & Emerging Technology R&D as a Science and Technology (S&T) Exhibitor during the Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) 2026 at the Quezon Convention Center, Lucena City, Quezon. The Office was represented by Ms. Patricia Z. Arellano (Project Staff) and Engr. Ashley June M. Gomez (Senior Research Associate).

Hosted by DOST CALABARZON, RSTW 2026 served as a regional platform for showcasing advances in science, technology, and innovation (STI). It brought together government agencies, academic institutions, industries, and the general public to foster collaboration and promote sustainable solutions to regional challenges.

Aligned with the Department's priority sector under “Driving Sustainable Energy”, the Office showcased Solar-Powered Refrigeration Equipment on Mobile (𝗦𝗼𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗼), a mobile, solar-powered refrigeration system that can precool, store, and transport fresh produce. It can operate off-grid with hybrid grid backup and can also provide power for farm electrification and during disasters and other emergency situations.

The technology was developed by the team of Mr. Ryan Anthony O. Lualhati from the UPLB Postharvest Horticulture Training and Research Center.

𝗛𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗘𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗡𝗢𝗪 | 𝗨𝗣𝗟𝗕 𝗧𝗧𝗕𝗗𝗢 𝗮𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗦𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗧𝗦

From 8 to 9 October 2026, UPLB, through its Technology Transfer and Business Development Office (TTBDO), joins the DOST-PCAARRD booth in showcasing innovations at the 2026 South Luzon Innovation and Technology Transfer Summit (SLITTS), held at the Calapan City Convention Center in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro.

Hosted by the DOST-MIMAROPA Regional Office, 2026 SLITTS brings together industry players, enterprises, government agencies, and technology developers to match business needs and challenges with available government-funded technologies for adoption. The summit features a technology exhibition, testimonies and success stories from technology adopters and spin-offs, a forum on win-win technology transfer agreements, reverse pitching, technology pitching, business matching, and the ceremonial turnover of SLITTS hosting.

Ms. Cathrene Amante (University Extension Specialist) represents UPLB as an exhibitor at the DOST-PCAARRD booth.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nigel John Casido (Senior Research Associate) pitches the following technologies:

1. 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗗𝘂𝗰𝗸 𝗘𝗴𝗴 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗱𝗲𝗿 - A shelf-stable powdered form of traditional salted duck eggs that can be incorporated into various food products.

2. 𝗡𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗼 - A biofertilizer containing endophytic bacterial inoculants that promote nitrogen fixation and the production of plant growth-promoting hormones in rice, corn, sugarcane, and leafy vegetables.

3. 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗻 - A natural biopesticide developed to protect Cavendish bananas against Panama disease, also known as Fusarium wilt.

4. 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗗𝗿𝘆𝗲𝗿 - A roofed, weather-protected drying system designed to dry seaweed faster and more efficiently than traditional sun-drying methods.

5. 𝗦𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗜 - An action research program that aims to reduce climate-related agricultural risks by providing stakeholders with information to support informed decision-making.

Represented by Engr. Trisha Denise Nabatilan (University Extension Associate) and Ms. Krixlyn Escosura (Project Technical Assistant), the Office participated in the Regional Agri-Aqua Innovation System Enhancement (RAISE) Program Sustainability Plan Writing Workshop and Stakeholders’ Consultation Meeting on 5-6 October 2026 at Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite.

The two-day workshop reviewed the accomplishments, strengths and weaknesses, opportunities, challenges, and gaps of the RAISE program, identified resource-mobilization opportunities, consolidated recommendations, and discussed the next steps for the finalization and implementation of the sustainability plan.

Engr. Nabatilan presented UPLB's program accomplishments, gains, technologies, partnerships, and lessons learned under the RAISE Program.

The University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), through its Technology Transfer and Business Development Office (TTBDO), conducted 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 on 23-25 September 2026 at the UPLB Science and Technology (S&T) Park. Under the theme 𝙃𝙖𝙧𝙫𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙃𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙯𝙤𝙣𝙨: 𝙋𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙄𝙣𝙣𝙤𝙫𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝘾𝙡𝙞𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙚-𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙄𝙣𝙘𝙡𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝘼𝙜𝙧𝙞-𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙎𝙮𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙢𝙨, Innovation Week 2026 brought together researchers, students, farmers, entrepreneurs, government agencies, and industry partners.

The three-day event showcased emerging agricultural technologies, strengthened technology transfer and commercialization efforts, and provided opportunities for participants to learn, collaborate, and develop solutions for pressing challenges in the Philippine agri-food sector. Activities included technology demonstrations, capacity-building sessions, youth-focused activities, and discussions on bringing research from the laboratory to real-world application.

Through Innovation Week 2026, the University reaffirmed its commitment to translating research and innovation into meaningful solutions that advance climate resilience, inclusive growth, and sustainable agri-food systems.

Did you know that the Philippine intellectual property system also considers our Indigenous People?

For instance, the 𝗧’𝗡𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗸 𝗧𝗮𝘂 𝗦𝗲𝗯𝘂 (TTS) which refers to the T’nalak hand woven by the people of Lake Sebu, South Cotabato, is registered as a 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸 of the group on 18 July 2017. The mark serves as a guarantee of quality and authenticity of T’nalak products. [1,2]

On 4 March 2026, the T’nalak Tau Sebu also received its 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (GI) 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. [3] GIs are indicators that a product came from a specific place, where a given quality, reputation, or other characteristic is essentially attributable to that origin.

With their invaluable contribution, we honor and recognize the communities whose enduring traditions, knowledge, and cultural practices continue to preserve our nation’s rich cultural heritage.
