An engaging and dynamic Engineering Innovation Demo Day with the UPLB Department of Industrial Engineering (DoIE) last 15 May, showcasing student-led innovation.

The Department of Industrial Engineering under the College of Engineering and Agro-industrial Technology (CEAT) led the Engineering Innovation Demo Day on May 15.

The event, held at the SEARCA Umali Auditorium, served as a platform for engineering students to pitch innovation projects for possible prototype development support and consideration for the James Dyson Award 2026.

It was conducted in partnership with the Technology Transfer and Business Development Office (TTBDO) under the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Innovation and Enterprise Management (OVCIEM) and the James Dyson Foundation.

On 21 May 2026, the UPLB TTBDO welcomed the UP Manila Technology Transfer and Business Development Office for a benchmarking activity aimed at strengthening coordination and fostering collaboration between the two offices. On May 20, UPLB welcomed a delegation from the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, Extension, and Development of Mindanao State University - Main Campus (MSU), for a benchmarking visit.

The delegation was led by MSU Vice Chancellor for Research, Extension, and Development Dr. Annie Mae C. Berowa. Representatives from UPLB's Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension, Technology Transfer and Business Development Office, and Office for Institutional Development in Higher Education received the group, sharing the university's best practices in research, extension, publication, technology transfer, and innovation systems.

The visit also served as an opportunity to revisit the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two universities on August 11, 2025, with the goal of revitalizing and deepening their partnership.

On 20 May 2026, delegates from the Mindanao State University (MSU) - Main Campus, Marawi City visited UPLB for a benchmarking and knowledge-sharing session aimed at strengthening technology transfer, research, extension, and innovation systems.

The visit brought together representatives from the Office for Institutional Development in Higher Education (OIDHE), Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension (OVCRE), and the UPLB TTBDO to share best practices in research, extension, innovation systems, and technology transfer.

During the session, UPLB TTBDO discussed its initiatives and best practices in intellectual property protection, technology transfer, and innovation management. The discussions fostered meaningful collaboration and provided valuable perspectives to support the continuous enhancement of MSU’s institutional systems and strategies for technology transfer and innovation.

On 15 May 2026, the UPLB Department of Industrial Engineering, in partnership with UPLB TTBDO, conducted the 2026 Innovation Demo Day as part of UPLB Innovation Week. The event gathered 45 student teams, with the top 15 teams participating in a live pitching session. Attendees were also able to explore the ideas and projects of all 45 teams through an exhibition.

2026 Innovation Demo Day was an avenue to identify promising student-led projects that could receive support for further development and potential funding opportunities. Through similar initiatives, UPLB continues to promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology-driven solutions among its students.

On 08 May 2026, the final session of the Design Thinking and Problem Validation Workshop was held for the FPPS 128 (Non-timber Forest Products) class at the UPLB Department of Forest Products and Paper Science, College of Forestry and Natural Resources.

As the workshop series concluded for the class, students were encouraged to carry forward the principles of empathy-driven innovation in developing meaningful solutions to prevalent societal needs and challenges.

UPLB TTBDO welcomed representatives from Central Luzon State University, Mindoro State University, and Nueva Vizcaya State University during a series of benchmarking and knowledge-sharing sessions held on 23 April, 24 April, and 07 May 2026, respectively.

The sessions served as a platform to exchange insights and best practices on intellectual property protection, technology transfer, and innovation management, strengthening efforts to safeguard and maximize university-developed technologies.

Together, we continue to strengthen a culture of innovation and knowledge sharing across institutions.

UPLB TTBDO joins Inoblasyon: The UP Innovation Summit 2026 on 5-6 May 2026 at the SMX Convention Center Aura, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City. The event highlighted how UP-generated knowledge and technologies address pressing societal challenges and create meaningful impact across communities.

The summit was participated by researchers, faculty members, and partners from government, industry, academia, and international institutions committed to advancing innovation for national development.

UPLB TTBDO also took part in the exhibit, showcasing UPLB-developed technologies on Biofertilizers and Soil Health Solutions, as well as Smart Agriculture and On-Farm Technologies.
