Sa bawat pagsapit ng ika-15 ng Mayo, muling nagiging buhay na larawan ng kasaysayan at kultura ang bayan ng Lucban, Quezon sa pamamagitan ng 𝗣𝗮𝗵𝗶𝘆𝗮𝘀 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹—isang pagdiriwang na matagal nang kinikilala bilang simbolo ng pasasalamat, pananampalataya, at pagkamalikhain ng mga Lucbanin. Higit pa sa makukulay na kiping at marangyang dekorasyon na bumabalot sa bawat tahanan, ang Pahiyas ay nagsisilbing salamin ng pamumuhay ng isang bayang malalim ang ugat sa agrikultura at tradisyong Pilipino.

Nagsimula ang pagdiriwang bilang simpleng pag-aalay ng ani kay San Isidro Labrador, patron ng mga magsasaka, bilang pasasalamat sa masaganang ani at biyayang natanggap ng bawat pamilya. Sa paglipas ng panahon, ang dating payak na tradisyon ay naging isa sa mga pinakatanyag na pistang pangkultura sa bansa, kung saan ipinapakita ng mga mamamayan ang kanilang ani at likhang-sining sa pamamagitan ng masining na pagdedekorasyon ng kanilang mga tahanan gamit ang kiping, prutas, gulay, at iba pang produktong lokal.

Subalit sa kabila ng pagiging tanyag nito bilang atraksiyong panturismo, nananatiling higit na mahalaga ang Pahiyas bilang representasyon ng pagkakaisa at pagkakakilanlan ng mga Lucbanin. Sa bawat kulay na nagbibigay-buhay sa mga lansangan ng bayan ay naroon ang kwento ng sipag ng mga magsasaka, malikhaing diwa ng komunidad, at pananampalatayang patuloy na humuhubog sa tradisyon ng Lucban sa paglipas ng maraming henerasyon. Sa panahon ng mabilis na pagbabago, nananatiling buhay ang Pahiyas bilang paalala na ang kultura at kasaysayan ay hindi lamang inaalala—𝘪𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘺 𝘪𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘥𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘢 𝘴𝘢 𝘴𝘶𝘴𝘶𝘯𝘰𝘥 𝘯𝘢 𝘴𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘭𝘢𝘩𝘪.

𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗦𝗰𝗶 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗢𝗧𝗖 𝗥𝗔𝗔𝗧𝗜

We, the ArtSci Student Council of Southern Luzon State University, condemn the sexist and misogynistic remarks directed at the students during the ROTC RAATI.

At a time when educational institutions are expected to be safe spaces that uphold respect, dignity, and equality, the utterance of statements that objectify women is deeply alarming. Remarks such as “Pumili kayo ng sponsor at ibibigay ko” reduce women. Whereas, it was said intended for women assigned as “ROTC sponsors”— it highlights an expository dynamic of systematic discrimination that reduces women into objects that can be selected and given away at the discretion of those in power. This is not only inappropriate; it is fundamentally dehumanizing and alarming.

This was said during an official activity and by someone in authority. It carries weight. It sets a tone for acceptable behavior and influences how individuals are perceived and treated. For many students, especially women, this creates discomfort and sends the wrong message about what is tolerated, and signals the normalization of disrespect.

The defense that these are merely jokes or harmless comments ignores the broader impact they have on reinforcing gender inequality. This is not a matter of oversensitivity—it is a matter of upholding the fundamental principles of respect, equality, and human dignity within our institutions.

We call on the university administration and concerned ROTC authorities to take immediate and concrete action. Accountability must be ensured, and mechanisms should be strengthened to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents. This includes mandatory gender sensitivity training, stricter enforcement of conduct policies, and the establishment of safe and accessible reporting systems for students.

Students deserve an environment where respect is clear and consistent. Activities meant to build discipline and leadership should not be spaces where anyone feels reduced or disrespected.

We stand with those who spoke up and will continue to call for a campus that upholds dignity and respect for all. Education must empower—not degrade.

From 7 colleges and 9 satellite and extension campuses, a unified roar of awakened Dragons echoed across fields and stages alike. The Intercollegiate and Campus Athletic Competition – Culture and Arts Festival (ICCAC-CAF) became a vast proving ground where Dragonkind does not simply appear but stirs, breathes, and unleashes fire into motion, leaving trails of flame wherever talent is tested.

For ICC-CAF (Culture and Arts Festival), congratulations to all participating institutions! In a shifting realm of color, rhythm, voice, and expression, cultural fire was shaped, tempered, and released through performance and artistry. Performances became sparks; movements turned into disciplined flickers of flame; cultural expressions stood as living embers of creativity. The College of Arts and Sciences Dragons proudly claim their standing as 𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝟵𝟴 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀!

For ICCAC (Athletic Competition), the clash of Dragon scales and flame-woven strength unfolded across courts and fields where sprints, strikes, serves, and defenses became trials of heat and will. Here, Dragons do not simply compete—they ignite the ground beneath them, coil with intent, strike with purpose, and rise stronger after impact. The CAS Dragons extend their roar and flame across all competing houses. In the final medal tally, the Dragons secured 𝟲𝘁𝗵 𝗿𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿-𝘂𝗽 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝟴 𝗴𝗼𝗹𝗱, 𝟮𝟯 𝘀𝗶𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗿, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟭𝟵 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘇𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗮𝗹𝘀—a trail of scorched perseverance, forged endurance, and fire carried through each round of battle.

With pride from the Arts and Sciences Council, we extend our deepest congratulations to all Dragons who stood, performed, and competed with heart, fire, and unwavering spirit. This achievement is carried by the collective roar, the unified blaze, and the Dragon energy that fueled CAS throughout the competition.
