NEWS | CTE highlights indigenous knowledge, innovation in STW booth

As part of the Southern Luzon State University's (SLSU) Science and Technology 2026 Celebration with the theme, "Siyensa, Teknolohiya, at Inobasyon: Kabalikat sa Matatag, Maginhawa at Panatag na Kinabukasan", the College of Teacher Education unveiled its booth for the week-long event at the SLSU Tennis Court, September 15.

The booth showcases various research studies, products, and creative works from the programs of CTE, including woven bayongs and other products from BTLED; the digitalization of the Pambayang Galleria ng Museo at Sining in Lucban, Quezon; a screencasting application for teachers and students; and the “Ecoguardians” comics by BSEd Science as an instructional material for environmental education. It also features the BCAEd research study, “Challenges and Learning Theatrical Elements: A Basis for Instructional Intervention for Special Program in the Arts Students,” as well as mirrors and other products from Waves and Optics of BSEd Science.

"Ang theme ng booth ay ethnoscience, na nakatuon sa pagsasanib ng kaalamang etniko at siyensya. Pangunahing simbolo nito ang balangay, na kumakatawan sa mayamang kaalaman at teknolohiyang minana mula sa mga ninuno at patuloy na ginagamit hanggang sa kasalukuyan. Ang agos ay sumisimbolo sa mga pananaliksik hinggil sa sustainable energy mula sa tubig, habang ang sagwan at layag ay kumakatawan sa paglalakbay tungo sa sustainable development. Iniugnay rin namin ang booth sa anim na Sustainable Development Goals na No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Quality Education, Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, Climate Action, at Life Below Water," Jacob Hernandez, CTE Student's Rights and Welfare Committee Head said in an interview.

As an additional presentation, a hologram displays a digital artwork of the balangay, while the booth’s background was hand-painted by the students, further emphasizing the creative integration of culture, science, technology, and art.

"Naging mahirap at masinsinan ang paghahanda namin dahil limitado ang oras, resources, budget, at manpower. Nalaman lamang namin ang tungkol sa booth isang linggo bago ang event, kaya kinailangang pagplanuhan at tapusin ang mga materyales sa loob lamang ng ilang araw, kabilang ang paggawa sa labas ng paaralan mula Biyernes hanggang Linggo dahil hindi maaaring pumasok sa campus. Sa kabila nito, naging collective effort ng CTE students ang paghahanda, kung saan tumulong ang SIKATURA, ELITES, SWS, at mga kinatawan mula sa iba’t ibang academic organizations. NEWS | CTE faculty bags 3rd Best Extension Project award, STI Week

College of Teacher Education (CTE) faculty members Dr. Vanessa C. Zubieta, Inst. Ronel R. Alday, Inst. Jovela I. Peñaojas, Inst. Enrico O. Regencia, Dr. Luis Miguel Saludez, Prof. Daisy G. Gregana, Dr. Antonio V. Romana, clinched 3rd Best Extension Project for “CTEhanan at Turuan: A Training Program for Research Capability Enrichment among Selected Senior High School Teachers in Lucban, Quezon” during the Science, Technology and Innovation Week’s 3rd Research Extension Project awarding, held at the SLSU Gymnasium, September 17.

In an interview with Inst. Peñaojas, one of the project proponents, said the initiative required extensive preparation, particularly in coordinating with DepEd Lucban and securing the participation of teachers. “It is a training program para sa mga selected senior high school teachers para ma-enrich ang kanilang research capabilities… so mahabang paghahanda kasi kailangan nating makipag-communicate at makipag-usap sa DepEd Lucban, humanap ng mga teachers na magpaparticipate, mag-secure ng memorandum of agreement, mag-prepare ang pinakang latag ng programa,” Inst. Peñaojas said.

The program conducted six training sessions from June 2025 to April 2026, with coordination among stakeholders and sustaining participant engagement identified as among the major challenges during its implementation.

Inst. Peñaojas said the project was formulated after the team identified research-related needs among teachers handling research subjects. “Extension siya based on research na inalam natin kung ano yung mga needs pa ng mga teachers na nagtuturo ng research,” she explained.

While some participants already had undergraduate research experience and were teaching research, Inst. Peñaojas noted that the training addressed areas where teachers still needed greater knowledge and confidence in delivering research instruction.

The project consequently brought in resource speakers specializing in different research approaches, including Inst. Alday for quantitative research and Dr. Romana for qualitative research. Two external resource speakers, both SLSU graduate school alumni, also participated in the training.

Inst. Peñaojas attributed the project's development to the need to address gaps in teachers' research training and its implications for classroom instruction. “Nakikita nga natin yung gap na kaya hindi maituro yung research nang maayos kasi kulang yung training, kakayahan ng mga teachers. So ’yan yung prinovide natin,” she said.

She also underscored the role of research education in promoting evidence-based decision-making. “Lahat ng desisyon natin gusto nating evidence-based, data-based. So paano mo ’yon magagawa kung hindi maayos ang pagkakaturo natin ng research?” Inst. Peñaojas added.

The project team identified the lack of adequate training for effective research instruction as its primary motivation for developing CTEhanan at Turuan.

Through the initiative, the CTE faculty sought to provide participating teachers with additional research knowledge and skills that could be applied in teaching and, consequently, shared with their students. | via Kyla Mae Recto, The Footprints News

NEWS | CTE student researchers secured first place at Student Research Congress on STI Week

CTE student researchers from Bachelor of Secondary Education - Major in Social Studies Bayron Rosales, Judilyn Carabido, and Rajie Revellame III securely won 1st Place on the Student Research Congress competition with their research presentation titled “Living Conditions of The Badjao: A Documentary Case Study for Indigenous People's Rights Act” under the category of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences through the Science, Technology, and Innovation Week at Southern Luzon State University Gymnasium, September 17, 2026.

The presented documentary showcases the integration of the act through the indigenous people as stated by Rosales, “Kung papaano natin i-integrate yung karapatan [...] ng mga indigenous people kung kaya't isa itong batayan bilang isang pag-aaral … [dahil] kailangan natin na ma-ensure na pantay yung pagtama sa karapatang pantao ng mga katutubong pamayanan natin dahil isa silang parte ng lumalawak na komunidad natin, hindi lamang dito sa probinsya ng Quezon kundi sa buong Pilipinas at yung documentary natin [ay] nilalayon ito na makapag-develop o makapaghubog ng kritikal na pagsusuri at makamasang pag-iisip para sa ating mga estudyante.”

Carabido uttered the group's experiences conducting the actual documentary research in an interview. “Una po sa budget, kasi mahirap po talaga mag conduct ng pananaliksik o ng research kung kulang sa budget. Isa pa rin po [yung] time constraints, dahil nga sa College of Teacher Education, isang sem lang yung kailangan gugulan para sa research kailangan makapagfinal defense na.”

Revellame’s statement said that their experience on the presentation of the congress was they are feeling rushed. “ … Bago Kasi yung araw ng research congress, ang akala namin, yung [may] parte ang bawat miyembro ng isang research na kung saan puwede sila magpresenta, pero nagulat no'ng mismong araw na 'yon na iisa lang ang puwede magpresenta. So, nagitla kami at bawat parte [lang] namin [ang] inaral namin. So, ang talagang na-target doon ay yung nag-present talaga ng thesis namin.”

“'Di ba iisa lang [dapat] yung presentor, pero noong mismong Q&A na, nabigyan kami ng pagkakataon [na] maging kasama namin yung mismong leader namin o yung presenter namin. Kaya sa pamamagitan no'n, [...] mas nabigyan namin ng hustisya yung aming pananaliksik," Carabido added.

Lastly, Rosales emphasized that the research congress isn't about the prize, but as a platform for innovation. “Hindi lang naman ito patungkol dun sa premyo na makukuha natin, ngunit yung platform na kung saan kung paano natin maipepresenta o maibabahagi sa iba't ibang stakeholder natin… nang sa gayon maa-assess natin hindi lamang yung buong pananaliksik, kasama na rin dito yung ethical consideration kapag nag-co-conduct tayo ng thesis natin.” | via Cristine Mae Pacheco, The Footprints News

BALITA | Bagong pasilidad at serbisyo, tampok sa ika-62 anibersaryo ng SLSU‎

Isinagawa ang Inauguration ng mga bagong establishmento at produkto ng Southern Luzon State University matapos ang pormal na pagbubukas ng Ika-62 Anibersaryo ng SLSU na may temang “SLSU ACHIEVES @ 62: Pinagbuklod ng Husay at Serbisyo Tungo sa Inklusibong Pagbabago”, Agosto 10.

‎Kasabay nang pagpapakilala ng bawat establishmento ay ang pagbabasbas at ribbon cutting na pinangunahan ni Dr. Frederick T. Villa at mga kawanian na nanguna upang mapatayo ang mga establishmento at produkto.
‎
‎Unang pinuntahan para sa inauguration ay ang Elevated Water Tank na may kasamang water treatment facility. Ito ay para masolusyunan ang problema sa daloy ng suplay ng tubig sa Laboratory High School.
‎
‎Kasunod nito ay ang opisyal na pasinaya at pagbabasbas ng National Service Training Program (NSTP) Multi-Purpose Hall. Ito ay maaaring magamit ng mga mag-aaral sa unang taon para sa mga kursong ROTC at CWTS sa ilalim ng NSTP.

‎Isinabay din sa inauguration na ito ang kasulukuyang pag-aayos ng tatlong silid-aralan sa lumang Senior High School ng Lab High, tulad ng pagbabago ng bubong at paglalagay ng kisame sa bawat silid ng gusali.

‎Opisyal din na binuksan ang Business Affairs Office Stalls, isang pangunahing layunin nito ay ang mapagkunan ng income ng paaralan. Mayroong tatlong stall na makikita at matatagpuan sa labas ng pamantasan.
‎
‎Sa ika-limang pagpapakilala at pagbabasbas, pinuntahan naman sa unang palapag ng gusali ng College of Industrial Technology (CIT) ang bagong ayos at pinagandang dalawang yunit ng comfort room na pambabae at panlalaki.
‎
‎Apat naman na scooter para sa mga estudyante, g**o, at empleyado na may natatanging kakayahan at pangangailangan ang inilabas at binasbasan. Sinabi rin dito na mayroon ding electric wheelchair para sa mga estudyante na physically challenged sa paglakad.

‎Bilang karagdagan pa, binasbasan at ipinakilala ang establisimyento mula sa Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Sports Performance Optimization, Revitalization, and Transformation for all Sectors of the Society (SPORTSS) Project. BALITA | SLSU, Pinarangalan ang mga Natatanging Lingkod sa PRAISE

Kasabay ng ika-62 founding anniversary ng Southern Luzon State University, idinaos ang Program on Awards and Incentives for Service Excellence (PRAISE) Gawad Pagkilala upang parangalan ang mga indibidwal na nag-ambag sa pag-unlad ng unibersidad, kabilang dito ang mga mag-aaral na nagwagi bilang topnotcher, sa SLSU Gymnasium, Agosto 10.

Pormal na sinimulan ang pagdiriwang sa pamamagitan ng panimulang pagbati mula sa Pangalawang Pangulo na si Dr. Arvin N. Natividad. Kasunod nito, nagbigay ng mensahe ang Pangulo ng SLSU na si Dr. Frederick T. Villa tungkol sa layunin ng programa at sa halaga ng tapat na paglilingkod sa komunidad.

Matapos nito, ginunita ng unang gawad ng pagkakilala ang mga mag-aaral na nanguna at nagpakitang gilas sa licensure examination, matapos ng kanilang pagkamit ng titulong 'topnotcher' sa kani-kanilang disiplina. Inuwi ng tatlong topnotcher mula sa Kolehiyo ng Pangg**ong Edukasyon ang pangunahing parangal.

Pinaunlakan din ng pagkakilala ang mga iskolar ng Faculty and Staff Development Program (FSDP) na nakatapos ng postgraduate na pag-aaral, pati na rin ang iba't ibang kawani at opisyal ng pamantasan. Kasama sa mga ginawaran ang mga miyembro ng mga yunit ng produkto at serbisyo, teknikal na manggagawa, mga g**o, at mga pinuno ng departamento.

Iniulat din ang progreso ng unibersidad bilang kauna-unahang tersiyaryong institusyon sa bansa na nagawaran ng akreditasyon mula sa Indonesian Accreditation Agency for Higher Education in Health (IAAHEH) para sa programang Bachelor of Science in Midwifery. Kasabay nito, kinilala rin ang pagkakagawad ng International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2015 certification sa Quality Management System ng mga satellite campus sa Tagkawayan, Lucena, at Tiaong.

Sumunod dito, taimtim na nagbigay-pugay para sa mga yumaong miyembro ng SLSU faculty para sa kanilang kontribusyon sa unibersidad. Gamit naman ang audio-visual na presentasyon, ay itinampok ang mga beteranong g**o mula sa iba't ibang kolehiyo, upang magsilbing pagpapasalamat sa kanilang paglilingkod at nagawang positibong pagbabago sa buhay ng kanilang mga naging estudyante.

SLSU Faculty Present Research at International Conference in Leyte

aProf. Sonia Abustan, AProf. Federico Ceribo, and AProf. Gino Cabrera represented Southern Luzon State University at the Kinetika at Kultura: 1st International Research Conference in Physical Education, Sports, Culture, and Arts Education held at Visayas State University, Baybay City, Leyte on July 29–30.

The faculty presented their collaborative study, “Localization of Participatory and System-Based Framework for a Community-Based Sports and Wellness Program in Quezon Province, Philippines,” conducted with Dr. Frederick T. Villa, Dr. Arvin N. Natividad, and Dr. Noreen P. Echague.

The research aligns with the conference theme, “Advancing Research and Teaching Practice in Physical Education, Sports, Culture, and Arts Education,” highlighting SLSU’s commitment to community-based initiatives and innovative approaches in sports and wellness education.

Kasunod nito, ipinakilala ng mga program chairperson ang mga kaguruan at propesor ng CTE upang maging mas pamilyar ang mga freshies sa mga g**ong magiging katuwang nila sa kanilang paglalakbay sa kolehiyo.
Nagbigay rin ng mahahalagang impormasyon ang mga kinatawan mula sa iba't ibang tanggapan ng unibersidad, kabilang sina 𝘿𝙧. Nagkaroon din ng isang pampasiglang bilang kung saan ibinida ng ating 𝗦𝗟𝗦𝗨 𝗖𝗔𝗙 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗩𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝘂𝗲𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝘀. 𝗖𝗵𝗹𝗲𝗮 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗠𝗿. 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝗹 𝗔𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗿 ang kanilang winning piece na “𝑯𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒊 𝑻𝒂𝒚𝒐 𝑷𝒘𝒆𝒅𝒆” 𝒏𝒈 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑱𝒖𝒂𝒏𝒔.
Bago matapos ang orientation proper, nilibot ng mga freshie ang University Library na nagbigay sa kanila ng karagdagang impormasyon tungkol sa iba pang serbisyo at pasilidad ng unibersidad.
