ATTENTION, ASPIRING EDUCATORS!📣

A new government scholarship program is now being introduced to support students who plan to pursue degrees in teacher education.

The Teacher Education Scholarship Program (TESP) is a joint initiative of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the Teacher Education Council (TEC), and the Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education (UniFAST). It is designed to help strengthen the pipeline of future educators in the Philippines, particularly in areas where there is a continuing need for qualified teachers.

Under the program, qualified scholars may receive full financial assistance covering tuition and other school fees, along with allowances for learning materials, transportation, and other education-related needs. Support may also extend to licensure examination-related expenses for graduates who proceed to take the board exams for teachers.

TESP is anchored on Republic Act No. 11713, or the Excellence in Teacher Education Act, which provides the legal framework for strengthening teacher education in the country.

For its pilot rollout beginning Academic Year 2026–2027, the program has been allocated approximately ₱103 million in funding, intended to support around 720 scholars in its initial implementation phase.

According to official guidelines, the program prioritizes students enrolling in teacher education degree programs in CHED-recognized higher education institutions.

While still in its early stage of implementation, education agencies describe TESP as part of a broader effort to address long-term gaps in the country’s education workforce by encouraging more students to enter the teaching profession.

For aspiring educators, the program opens another pathway into higher education by easing financial barriers while aligning academic training with national education needs.
