Women. Leaders. Luminaries.
Every story has a beginning, and ours started with a vision. The PSAU Bachelor of Arts in English once built a home called the Communication Arts Circle (CAC). In 2020, as the program evolved into Bachelor of Arts in English Language Studies, that home transformed into what we now proudly call the English Language Studies Society (ELSSoc). With change came growth, and with growth came women who carried the organization forward with courage, grace, and purpose.
From 2020 to the present, five remarkable women have taken the lead in shaping ELSSoc into the organization it is today. In 2020, Ms. Abigail Cabrera served as the first president, opening the path with strength and determination. She was followed by Ms. Blesyl Mae Acebes-Hernandez in 2021, who continued the legacy with passion and resilience. In 2022, Ms. Gloomy Rain Domingo led with creativity and heart, bringing new life to the organization. Ms. Ishi Guina then guided ELSSoc through 2023 and 2024 with vision and consistency. Today, Ms. Lincey Bartolome carries the torch, continuing a story rooted in excellence and empowerment.
These women are more than leaders. They are living proof that leadership is not only about authority, but about service, growth, and inspiring others to rise.
Beyond the organization itself, the Pampanga State Agricultural University is also shaped by women from the Department of English (DoE) who lead with wisdom and dedication. Dr. Sylvia De Guzman, Vice President for Academic Affairs, continues to guide the university toward academic excellence. Dr. Alawi Canlas, Director of the Office of Admissions and Registration, ensures that opportunities remain open and accessible to students. Meanwhile, Ms. Anne Gellie Dimabuyu, head of the Intellectual Property Unit under the Office of Innovation, champions ideas and protects creativity.
Within the DoE and the BAELS program, women continue to nurture minds and shape futures. Mrs. Ma. Leilani Agillon, the Department Chair, leads the department with commitment and vision. Ms. Andrea Baltazar, Research Coordinator, cultivates a strong culture of inquiry and scholarship. Ms. Jaimee Marie Serrano, Internship Coordinator, prepares students to face the realities of the professional world. Completing the growing community is Ms. Noreen Icmat, the newest member of the department, who brings fresh energy and promise to the program.
At the heart of ELSSoc are the women who nurtured and guided the organization through the years. From the days of the CAC to its transformation into ELSSoc, Ms. Chonnie Cholla David helped lay the foundation through mentorship and care. Dr. Jamayma Gatchalian further strengthened the organization with wisdom and steadfast support. Today, Mrs. Danna Lyn P. Gonzales serves as the current adviser, continuing this legacy with dedication and a genuine commitment to student growth.
This Womenโs Month, we celebrate not only achievements, but the journeys behind them. We honor the quiet sacrifices, the unseen efforts, and the unwavering strength that these women embody every single day.
To all the women of BAELS and beyond, thank you for leading, for nurturing, and for inspiring. Your stories continue to shape futures and ignite possibilities.
Happy Womenโs Month!
