Today, we commemorate the 128th anniversary of Philippine Independenceโa celebration of freedom, courage, and the enduring spirit of the Filipino people.
On June 12, 1898, Philippine independence was proclaimed from Spanish colonial rule. During the historic event held at the residence of Emilio Aguinaldo in Kawit, Cavite, Ambrosio Rianzares Bautista read the Act of the Declaration of Independence before the public. The Philippine flag, sewn by Marcela Agoncillo with the assistance of Lorenza Agoncillo and Delfina Herbosa de Natividad, was also unfurled for the first time. This was followed by the playing of the Marcha Filipina Magdalo, which later became our national anthem, Lupang Hinirang.
Araw ng Kalayaan is not only a celebration of freedom from colonization but also a tribute to the brave individuals who sacrificed their lives in the pursuit of liberty and justice for every Filipino. Without their courage and determination, the Filipino identity we know today would not have been possible.
This day serves as a reminder to cherish our nation, culture, and traditions, as they are fruits of our heroes' sacrifices and our country's hard-earned sovereignty. Let us continue to honor our roots and preserve them for future generations to experience and appreciate.
Mabuhay ang bawat Pilipino. Lagi't lagi, para sa bayan! ๐ซก๐ต๐ญ
