Congratulations to our UMak Alumni and Student-Athlete!

We proudly congratulate our UMak Alumni Janine Puig, Ivon Gavieres, and Sean Rasing, together with current UMak student-athlete Jeselito Jalandoni, for bringing pride to the country as members of the Philippine Cobras Touch Team at the Selangor Touch Festival held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia!

Standing tall against fierce international competition, including tournament champions Silverferns Club of Singapore, the team secured 4th place in the Men’s Open Category and 5th place in the Mixed Open Category.

Thank you for carrying the national colors with honor and showcasing the excellence, passion, and determination of UMak athletes and alumni on the international stage.

Pero sa simpleng lugar na ito, may mga pangarap na nagsimulang tumindig, tumalon, at mangarap nang mas mataas.

Congratulations, Cai Cortez, and welcome to the UMak Alumni family!

Ang iyong pagtatapos ay patunay na walang deadline ang pangarap. Sa kabila ng mga hamon bilang working professional at single mother, ipinakita mong ang tiyaga, sipag, at determinasyon ay kayang magdala sa tagumpay.

Nawa'y magsilbing inspirasyon ang iyong kuwento sa lahat na patuloy na lumalaban para sa kanilang mga pangarap dahil hindi mahalaga kung gaano katagal ang biyahe, ang mahalaga ay hindi ka tumigil.

Actress Cai Cortez is celebrating a milestone two decades in the making after finally earning her college degree while balancing work and raising two children as a single mother.

In an emotional Instagram post, Cortez shared that she has officially graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science major in Local Government Administration from the University of Makati (UMak), describing the achievement as the fulfillment of a long-held dream.

“20 years in the making. Mom and Dad, sana proud kayo kahit it took this long to give you a diploma,” she wrote.

The actress dedicated the accomplishment to her parents, expressing hope that they would be proud despite the long journey it took to finish her studies.

Cortez also thanked the University of Makati for giving opportunities to working students like herself.

“Will forever be grateful to UMak for giving opportunities to people like me na gustong makatapos kahit nagwo-work and solo mother of 2,” she said.

She likewise acknowledged those who helped make her return to school possible, including Sir Thad, whom she credited for enrolling her, and her best friend Tart Carlos. She also thanked her supporters from Team Cai, as well as Kim Cruz and Navi for helping her prepare for her graduation day.

“Officially a Bachelor of Science Political Science Major in Local Government Administration graduate,” she proudly announced.

The graduation marks a significant personal triumph for Cortez, who has remained active in the entertainment industry while juggling the responsibilities of work, motherhood, and completing her education.

Her story quickly resonated with fans and fellow celebrities, many of whom congratulated her and praised her perseverance. The post has since garnered thousands of reactions and hundreds of comments, with many describing her journey as an inspiration to working students, parents, and anyone pursuing a long-delayed dream.

The University of Makati extends its warmest congratulations to alumnus Ezrael Casasola on his outstanding performance at the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - a proud moment for UMak and the Philippines.

The 2015 Higher School ng UMak graduate earned two Gold Medals and one Silver Medal, and was named the 2026 WCOPA Division Champion.
