CMU STUDENTS SHINE AT CORE NCR HACKATHON, BAG MULTIPLE AWARDS

City of Malabon University (CMU) proudly celebrates another milestone in innovation and technology as its student teams earned major recognitions at the Dagitab: InnoFest 2026 CORE NCR Hackathon, showcasing their creativity, technical competence, teamwork, and commitment to developing technology-driven solutions with meaningful social impact. Competing among 30 groups from three Local Universities and Colleges: City of Malabon University, Pateros Technological College and Collegio de Muntinlupa.

Among the outstanding CMU teams, CMUMANS (Zedrick B. De Jose, Rex Jericho A. Tomas, and Christian Immanuel D. Domingo) - CMU emerged as 2nd Runner-Up, receiving a plaque and ₱10,000 cash prize for their impressive performance and innovative solution. Their achievement demonstrates the ability of CMU students to transform ideas into practical solutions while competing in a challenging hackathon environment.

Adding to the University’s success, COREXPLORER (Esmar V. Augis Jr., Joseph Benedict A. Basihan and Lanz Andrew D. Tinaza) - CMU received the Social Innovation Award, with a ₱5,000 cash prize. The recognition highlights the team’s efforts to harness technology not only for innovation but also for addressing real-world needs and creating positive impact in communities.

The event also provided CMU students an opportunity to present their ideas before experts and industry representatives, strengthen their problem-solving and presentation skills, and experience the fast-paced process of developing innovative solutions through collaboration.

CMU was likewise presented with a Plaque of Appreciation, recognizing the University’s participation and support for initiatives that promote innovation, technological advancement, and talent development.

These achievements reflect CMU’s continuing commitment to providing students with opportunities beyond the classroom where they can apply their knowledge, develop industry-relevant competencies, and contribute solutions responsive to contemporary challenges.

On Day 4 of Dagitab: InnovFest 2026 – CORE NCR Hackathon, our student innovators from the City of Malabon University (CMU) and fellow participating institutions shifted their focus from building innovative solutions to effectively communicating their ideas, refining their prototypes, and preparing for the final pitching event.

Today's Highlights:

🎯 Pocket Pitch Karaoke
Our student participants took the spotlight in breakout sessions, delivering 5-minute pitches followed by intensive 3-minute Q&A sessions. These activities challenged them to present their ideas with clarity, respond confidently to questions, and strengthen their storytelling and presentation skills.

💡 Intensive Coaching & Refinement
Through focused group discussions and consultations with startup coaches, students refined their business models, enhanced their presentation materials, and added the finishing touches to their prototypes in preparation for the culminating pitch presentation.

For the City of Malabon University, this experience reflects its continuing commitment to innovation, technology-driven solutions, experiential learning, and the development of globally competitive and industry-ready graduates.

🛠️ From Concepts on Paper to Tangible Prototypes!

On Day 3 of Dagitab: InnovFest 2026 – CORE NCR Hackathon, our student innovators took another major step forward, from ideation and business modeling into the exciting phase of venture building and prototyping.

Today focused on turning ideas into practical solutions by examining feasibility, understanding startup economics, and developing Minimum Viable Products (MVPs).

✨ Today’s Highlights:

🔹 Feasibility & MVP Scoping
Teams identified their core features, refined their build direction, and assessed whether their proposed solutions could be realistically developed and implemented within real-world constraints.

🔹 Startup Economics
Our student innovators explored the financial side of innovation, gaining insights into costs, value creation, sustainability, and the importance of developing solutions that can remain viable beyond the prototype stage.

🔹 Prototyping the Solution
Teams began transforming their concepts into tangible MVPs by designing user experiences, building initial prototypes, and considering how customer feedback can be incorporated to further improve their solutions.

Through feasibility, sustainability, and hands-on prototyping, our students are learning that innovation is not only about having great ideas, it is about transforming those ideas into functional, sustainable, and impactful solutions.

🔥 DAY 2 | From Ideas to Viable Solutions

The innovation journey continues at Dagitab: InnovFest 2026 – CORE NCR Hackathon! 🚀

On Day 2, our student innovators moved beyond broad ideas and began transforming their concepts into more structured and viable business strategies. Through customer validation, assumption testing, and problem-solution fit activities, the teams worked to ensure that their innovations are grounded in real user needs and meaningful challenges.

Today’s learning journey focused on three key areas:

💡 Problem-Solution Fit Deep Dive
Students examined their core concepts through customer validation, strengthened their value propositions, and clarified the important question: “Why does this solution matter?”

📊 Business Model Foundations
Teams explored the Lean Business Canvas, gaining insights into market viability, customer channels, revenue streams, and cost considerations, essential elements in developing solutions that can be both impactful and sustainable.

🤝 Ecosystem Mentorship
The day culminated in an intensive Coaching & Consultation Session with experienced startup coaches and mentors. Through direct feedback and meaningful discussions, our student innovators were able to stress-test their ideas, identify opportunities for improvement, and prepare their concepts for the next stage, the prototyping.

🚀 THE SPARK OF INNOVATION HAS OFFICIALLY BEEN IGNITED! 🚀

The City of Malabon University (CMU) - College of Computer Studies proudly joins the Dagitab: InnovFest 2026 – CORE NCR Hackathon, an initiative under the PhilDev CORE Talent Accelerator Program, with the support of Wells Fargo Philippines.

Today marks the beginning of an exciting five-day journey where students from Pateros Technological College, City of Malabon University, and Colegio de Muntinlupa come together to transform their knowledge, creativity, and technical skills into innovative solutions addressing real-world challenges.

💡 DAY 1 HIGHLIGHTS

🔹 Startup Inspiration
CMU student participants gained valuable insights from the Startup Pitching Exhibition, followed by an engaging session on “How to Pitch Your Startup” facilitated by Focal Labs. The sessions encouraged our students to think beyond technical solutions and explore how innovative ideas can create meaningful opportunities and impact.

🔹 Career Excellence & Industry Exposure
The afternoon session focused on Interview Preparedness and CV Development, facilitated by employee volunteers from Wells Fargo Philippines. Our students received practical guidance on developing job-ready profiles, strengthening their communication skills, and preparing for future career opportunities.
