The wait is finally over! The 2nd Junior International Basketball Cup (JIBC) 2026 is officially happening, and of course, we are bringing the action right here to the home of the Tomasinos! 🐯

As the Founder and Director of JIBC, and as your Commissioner, I am personally inviting everyone to witness the clash of our finest youth players on the court. Save the dates: June 27 and 28 at the University of Santo Tomas (UST), España, Manila!
Let’s show them what fighting spirit is all about!

We have 5 age categories for the Boys' Division:

The coaches of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), headed by SEA Games 2025 gold medalist, coach Norman Black, have held their planning session for the next Combined Talent Identification Grassroots program of SBP.

​First place to visit for the SBP coaches will be in Zamboanga City from February 6 to 8, 2026. The pool of assistant coaches will consist of the following: Beaujing Acot, Larry Fonacier, and Dean Castaño. The coaches will travel across the country to scout players. They will monitor skills, measure talent, and benchmark data for the Gilas Program.

​Regional Director Pedro Alfaro Jr. will serve as the point person for the Zamboanga City event.
​Since last year, the program was already running. They conducted rounds of Talent Identification, and our local and international youth players have already been added to the database. This initiative is a way to strengthen communication with local coaches and reach out to remote areas of the country.

​This is an excellent program to support our Batang Gilas and Gilas Pilipinas Girls.

JAI Reyes is reportedly likely to be the next commissioner of the upcoming UAAP Season 88 basketball tournaments.

SPIN.ph sources bared the UAAP hierarchy is inclined to appoint Reyes to succeed Xavy Nunag who held the post for two years.

Reyes, a former Ateneo point guard, is no stranger to supervising tournaments as he founded Filbasket (now-Asiabasket) back in 2021.

The 38-year-old spent five seasons in the PBA between Powerade, Talk 'N Text, and Meralco, before playing internationally in Thailand and Vietnam. He last played for KL Aseel of Malaysia before moving on to a sports executive role.

Beaujing Acot is rumored to be his deputy for this season which will be hosted by University of Santo Tomas.

The duo will have big shoes to fill following the commissionership of Nunag. They will handle all UAAP basketball events which include men's, women's, boys', girls' junior high school, and 3x3 basketball tournaments. - RL
