BukSU CON Successfully Concludes 2nd COIL Program with UKSW

The Bukidnon State University College of Nursing successfully concluded its Second Collaborative Online International Learning Program in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing with Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana, marking another successful academic partnership in global nursing education.

The COIL program provided nursing students from both institutions a meaningful opportunity to learn together, exchange cultural perspectives, and collaborate on relevant issues in psychiatric and mental health nursing. Through the sessions, students deepened their understanding of mental health concerns while developing greater appreciation for culturally sensitive and compassionate nursing care.

The success of the program was made possible through the guidance of the lecture facilitators from both institutions, particularly Dr. Mariz Rochelle C. Sedon from Bukidnon State University and Ns. Desi, S.Kep., MSN, Sp.Kep.K from Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana. Their facilitation helped students engage in reflective discussions and develop their final collaborative outputs.

One of the highlights of the program was the students’ final output, which featured vlog type mental health awareness presentations. These creative outputs allowed students to promote mental health awareness in a format that is relatable, timely, and student centered. The presentations reflected their understanding of mental health advocacy, stigma reduction, and the role of future nurses in encouraging help seeking behaviors.

Student testimonials also affirmed the positive impact of the COIL experience. Participants shared that the program helped them gain confidence in communicating with international peers, appreciate diverse perspectives, and recognize the value of collaboration in addressing psychiatric and mental health concerns.

BukSU CON also expressed its gratitude to Dr. Joy M. Mirasol, University President; Dr. Hazel Jean M. Abejuela, Vice President for Academic Affairs; and the International Affairs and Linkages Unit headed by Dr. Rizzza Consad, for their continued support in advancing internationalization initiatives. The College also recognized the support of its partner institution, led by Ir. Ferry Fredy Karwur, M.Sc., PhD, Dean of the Fakultas Ilmu Kesehatan, Dr .Priska Lydia S. Pulungan, Vide- Dean, and Dr. Maria Dyah Kurniasari, Head of the Undergraduate Nursing Program.

The successful completion of the Second COIL Program reflects the strong partnership between Bukidnon State University College of Nursing and Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana. Through this collaboration, both institutions continue to provide transformative international learning opportunities that prepare nursing students to become compassionate, competent, and globally responsive healthcare professionals.

📍Future Nurses in Action: Level IV Batch Akasi Triumphs in Clinical Rotations 💉✨

From monitoring intravenous fluids and documenting accurately and efficiently, to performing bedside assessments and procedures, assisting physicians during patient rounds, administering medications while observing the 12 Rights, and actively participating in nurses’ rounds, the Level 4 Batch Akasi demonstrated competence, dedication, and professionalism throughout their clinical exposure. Despite the demands of balancing patient care, addressing the concerns of significant others, and collaborating closely with the healthcare team, they consistently carried out their responsibilities with excellence and composure. Indeed, Batch Akasi performed with finesse, reflecting remarkable growth and improvement in both knowledge and bedside skills, marking a significant milestone in their NCM 121 Intensive Nursing Practicum Related Learning Exposure.

Guided by a cohort of compassionate, skilled, and supportive Clinical Instructors, the students were able to provide holistic care to Medical-Surgical patients from Bethel Baptist Hospital, Malaybalay Polymedic General Hospital, Bukidnon Provincial Medical Center, St. Jude Thaddeus General Hospital to the Communities of Malaybalay City. Throughout the second semester, they integrated the principles of Primary and Functional Nursing while strengthening their clinical judgment, communication skills, and patient-centered approach to care.

More than a requirement to complete, the practicum became a transformative experience that shaped the students into more confident, compassionate, and globally responsive future nurses. Through every bedside encounter, challenge, and learning opportunity, Batch Akasi embodied resilience, teamwork, and a genuine commitment to the nursing profession, qualities they will continue to carry as they move forward in service to humanity and healthcare. 🩷💙

The clinical rotation marked a meaningful milestone in the students’ journey toward becoming competent, compassionate, and globally responsive nurses. Through weeks of immersive exposure in various clinical settings, the students were given the opportunity to integrate theoretical knowledge with actual patient care, strengthen their clinical judgment, and develop professionalism within a dynamic healthcare environment.

All four sections, together with their dedicated Level III clinical instructors — Ms. Brenda G. Caballero, Ms. Guida Mae V. Lanayan, Ms. Audrey Nicole B. Molina, Ms. Corazon C. Cero, Mr. Francis H. Uygioco, Mr. Earl John I. Gomez, Mr. Jayson Mark C. Verdeda, and Ms. Czarina Grace G. Pronto — encountered diverse clinical cases and further enhanced their bedside competencies under the guidance of their instructors throughout the two-week rotation. Each section was exposed to four different hospital areas, ranging from Medical Wards to Oncology Units, allowing the students to gain broader clinical experience and deeper appreciation of patient-centered care.

The two-week clinical duty culminated with the students’ Case Presentation, which was panelled and evaluated by nursing experts from Southern Philippines Medical Center. The panel shared valuable insights and constructive feedback that further enriched the students’ learning experience and professional growth.

The successful completion of this clinical affiliation reflects the students’ hard work, resilience, dedication, and readiness to take on greater responsibilities in the nursing profession.
