ASTRO-NEWS: SYZYGY at PSSARC 2026! 🌌

Last August 3–5, 2026, members and officers of SYZYGY participated in the 2nd Philippine Space Science and Astronomy Research Conference (PSSARC), held at the University of San Carlos – Talamban Campus in Cebu.

Some presented their research through posters, while others gave talks on their respective research. Others also volunteered and helped make the event possible!

A special shoutout to Ms. Patrizia Phem Odo for winning Best Poster Presentation in the Astronomy & Astrophysics category! Congratulations! 🌟

They were accompanied by the club’s adviser, Instr. Ryan Vitalez, and former club president, Mr. Bjorn Jasper Raquel.

In partnership with Astronomy on Tap Manila, 𝚂𝚈𝚉𝚈𝙶𝚈 joined an exciting night session of space biology last July 18, 2026 at Coffee Chapters Burgos Branch, with the featured space biologist and Balik Scientist 𝑫𝒓. 𝑨𝒍𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒅𝒐 𝑨𝒍𝒄𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒓𝒂 𝑱𝒓. of the 𝑫𝒆𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝑺𝒄𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑻𝒆𝒄𝒉𝒏𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒚 - 𝑷𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒑𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝑵𝒖𝒄𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒓 𝑹𝒆𝒔𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒄𝒉 𝑰𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒕𝒖𝒕𝒆 (𝑫𝑶𝑺𝑻-𝑷𝑵𝑹𝑰).

𝚂𝚈𝚉𝚈𝙶𝚈 also participated in 𝘼𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙤𝙢𝙮 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙉𝙚𝙬𝙨, a segment dedicated to bringing the latest news in the space science and astronomy community. Representing the club were 𝑴𝒓. 𝑪𝒉𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒑𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝑻𝒖𝒎𝒂𝒎𝒂𝒄 𝑱𝒓. (𝚂𝚈𝚉𝚈𝙶𝚈'𝚜 𝙿𝚛𝚎𝚜𝚒𝚍𝚎𝚗𝚝t), 𝑴𝒔. 𝑹𝒐𝒔𝒆 𝑨𝒏𝒏 𝑪𝒆𝒛𝒂𝒓 (𝚂𝚈𝚉𝚈𝙶𝚈'𝚜 𝚅𝙿𝙸𝙰), and 𝑴𝒓. 𝑹𝒚𝒂𝒏 𝑨𝒏𝒅𝒓𝒆𝒘 𝑫𝒐ñ𝒂 (𝚂𝚈𝚉𝚈𝙶𝚈 𝚖𝚎𝚖𝚋𝚎𝚛), who were interviewed about their journey in bringing international recognition to the Philippine space community through the 2025 𝐀𝐬𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐓𝐫𝐲 𝐙𝐞𝐫𝐨-𝐆 (𝐀𝐓𝐙𝐆).🚀👩‍🚀

From cosmic curiosities to great conversations, it was truly a night to remember!☄️☕

ASTRO-NEWS: SYZYGY at APRIM 2026! ✨

SYZYGY officer Vixen Anne Berongoy and member Jallelu Emmanuel Supino recently participated in the Asia-Pacific Regional International Astronomical Union Meeting (APRIM 2026) held last May 4–8, 2026, in Hong Kong.

They were joined by RTU Assistant Professor Dr. Daryl Joe Santos and Philippine Space Agency Space Science Missions Bureau Director IV Dr. Reinabelle Reyes (Doc Reina).

They presented their individual research posters across different conference themes and joined delegates from 33 participating countries.

The conference focused on discussions in astronomy, astrophysics, cosmology, planetary science, instrumentation, space missions, and emerging developments in space research and international collaboration.

𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘨𝘰𝘵 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘛𝘌𝘈 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦 💥✨

The universe served another fascinating cup of TEA as we explored the role of neutrinos in powering supernovae, from collapsing stellar cores to flavor-changing particles that may determine the fate of exploding stars.

The session opened discussions on how these nearly undetectable particles carry immense energy and shape some of the most energetic events in the cosmos.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to our speaker for sharing his knowledge and making such a complex topic both engaging and thought-provoking, as well as to everyone who participated and brought curiosity into the discussion.
