🍱 DAY 2 | Halo-Halong Baon: Connecting Knowledge, Community, and Practice through Service-Learning

It continued with meaningful learning and reflection through “Better Baons and Beyond” and “Iba’t Ibang Baon at Pabaon: SL and Reflective Practice.” Our Faculty members reflected on their experiences and gathered practical insights to bring into their Service-Learning classrooms and communities.

The training highlighted the importance of quality education and meaningful partnerships, aligned with SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

Together, we continue to connect knowledge, community, and practice, one baon at a time!

🍱 DAY 1 | Halo-Halong Baon: Connecting Knowledge, Community, and Practice through Service-Learning

The Halo-Halong Baon Faculty Capacity Building Workshop brought Benilde Service-Learning faculty together for a series of learning sessions, workshops, and simulations designed to strengthen their practice of Service-Learning.

The program featured “Bakit may S-L sa Benilde?”, an exploration of the S-L Teacher’s role, and “Oh, Paano nga ba?” on working with communities, organizations, and people. Faculty also gained insights into the advocacies of S-L partners through “Need ba nila ng ano?”

The afternoon moved into hands-on learning through “Making Halo the Halo” and a Partners’ Interview Simulation through the use of Google Gemini, followed by “Ano Baon Mo?” a reflective activity that encouraged faculty to identify the knowledge and insights they will bring into their Service-Learning practice.

A day of learning, collaboration, practice, and reflection by advancing SDG 4: Quality Education and supporting SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through meaningful community engagement.

Strengthening Service-Learning through Meaningful Reflection

The Center for Faculty Advancement (CFAd) of De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde participated in the De La Salle University | UNISERVITATE Service-Learning Faculty Training 2026, held on August 20–21, 2026, at Balay Indang, Cavite.

Benilde Representatives:
• Ms. Jhoanna Paula E. Tacorda, OIC Director, Benilde Center for Faculty Advancement

• Mr. Kirby Dangel, Professional Lecturer, Hospitality Management, Benilde Antipolo
• Ms. Adah Ruth Aguasin, Chairperson of Tourism Management, Benilde Antipolo

The two-day training strengthened faculty capacity to facilitate meaningful reflection and deepen student learning, values formation, and engagement in Service-Learning. It also explored the integration of Catholic Social Teaching in guiding students from experience to analysis and action.

The initiative primarily contributes to SDG 4: Quality Education, particularly Target 4.7, while fostering SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through collaboration within the Lasallian and Service-Learning community.

Through continued professional development and collaboration, Benilde remains committed to advancing transformative, reflective, and socially responsive Service-Learning practices.

🌱 From Promise to Progress: Transforming Food Systems for Inclusive Growth

The Service-Learning Unit of De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde was honored to be invited to the 2nd Annual Farm Forward Initiatives (FFI) Conference, held on July 30, 2026, at the SMX Convention Center Manila, in conjunction with WOFEX Manila 2026.

The conference brought together partners from across the FFI and WOFEX ecosystem to strengthen linkages between farmer and fisherfolk cooperatives and associations and various market sectors. It also provided a meaningful space to learn from partners, exchange insights, and explore opportunities for stronger and more sustainable collaboration.

As a Service-Learning Unit, we value opportunities that allow us to deepen our partnerships and better understand the communities and organizations we work alongside. We are grateful to Farm Forward Initiatives for continuing to create spaces where meaningful partnerships can grow and contribute to more inclusive and sustainable food systems. 🌿

Here’s to turning partnerships into progress, one collaboration at a time. 💚

From Immersion, to Reflection, to Exhibition

Last August 3, our Benildean student participants of the Service-Learning Student Summit 2026 (SLSS 2026), along with Ms. Karol Ann Antonio and the rest of the delegates, visited the Drop by Drop Project in Macau. This project, under the University of Saint Joseph, studies and showcases mangroves as a natural protection from extreme weather and pollution.

Pivotal to the service-learning process, the participants collectively reflected on their immersion experience, inviting them to think about and transpose their learnings into lifelong commitment as socially responsible professionals.

Later that day, Dustin Estuche of Benilde Photo showcased 'LAKBAY,' their service-learning project with Alon and Araw Club last term, as part of the Summit's exhibit roster.

Stay tuned for more updates on the SLSS 2026!
