De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) Tourism Management Program Chairperson Frederick Ang noted that infrastructure remains a persistent challenge that hinders the country's full tourism potential.
“Investments should prioritize airport modernization, integrated transport systems connecting gateways to tourism sites, smart tourism technologies, environmental sustainability, and workforce development that prepares professionals capable of managing increasingly sophisticated tourism systems,” he said.

"The Philippines has every opportunity to become a leading tourism destination in Southeast Asia," he added. "Our natural beauty has never been in question. The challenge now is ensuring that the journey is just as memorable as the destination itself."

The School of Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management (SHRIM) proudly announces the appointment of Dr. Benigno Glenn R. Ricaforte as its new Dean, bringing to the School an exceptional blend of academic excellence, industry expertise, professional leadership, and a distinguished record of service.

With more than 22 years of academic experience and 17 years of industry practice spanning food microbiology, airline catering, hospitality and management, Dr. Ricaforte brings a depth of knowledge shaped both inside and beyond the classroom.

He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Education from the University of the Philippines, a Master of Business Administration from De La Salle University-Manila, and a Master in Crisis Management and Disaster Risk Reduction Management from the Philippine Public Safety College.

A Registered Microbiologist (RMicro) and Certified Guest Service Professional (CGSP), Dr. Ricaforte is also the Philippine Country Director and Representative to the Asia Pacific Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education (APacCHRIE). His distinguished portfolio further includes accomplishments as a researcher, textbook author, and former National President of the Philippine Society for Microbiology.

With a leader of Dr. Ricaforte’s caliber at the helm, SHRIM continues to raise the standard of hospitality education, strengthen industry relevance, and shape the next generation of leaders who are ready to make their mark on the global stage.

Our deepest gratitude and warmest appreciation to our dearest Dean, Dr. Marie Paz Castro, for her dedicated and transformative leadership of the School of Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management from 2019 to 2026.

Through the challenges of a changing world and the unprecedented years of the pandemic, Dean Marie stood steadfast, guiding SHRIM with vision, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

Under her leadership, SHRIM strengthened its internationalization initiatives and global partnerships, championed the establishment of Tourism and Culinary Arts as independent degree offerings, achieved significant local and international accreditations, advanced research and community engagement, and transformed our learning environments through the renovation and upgrading of our laboratories.

But beyond milestones and achievements, her greatest legacy lies in the people and the institution she helped shape—strengthening SHRIM’s reputation as a leader in hospitality and tourism education and leaving an enduring mark on generations of Benildeans.
