Official Statement of UNICEF Benilde on Israel’s Airstrike on Rafah
Last 26th of May, 2024, an Israeli airstrike killed at least 45 civilians in a refugee camp in Rafah, Gaza. Most of the victims were children and women. This attack happened despite designating the place as a “safe zone.”
We at UNICEF Benilde condemn any action that threatens the lives of people, especially children and women. Any form of violence, terror, and killing is purely unjust and should cease to exist. Thus, we stand firmly in solidarity among those who have been affected by this tragedy.
We call upon the Benildean community to join our plea for a Permanent in Gaza. This, in line with the signing of petitions and extending outlets of donations for humanitarian aid among victims of war, is a step in using your voice for collective action. Our role as both Benildeans and Filipinos requires us to be socially responsible, to appreciate the worth of every individual, and to be one with the plight of the poor.
Let this be the time to extend our sympathy and uphold our Benildean and Filipino values. Let’s continue to be proactive in speaking against any injustices that oppress humanity and support our neighbors, pray for them, and reach out for love.
