No truer words could be stipulated with the epigraph above as the Republic of the Philippines commemorates the fruitful life (ironically, death) of Dr. Jose Rizal. He, who decided to spend his life writing for the Filipino people and for personal gain, had to ultimately face the devils of the Spaniards.
The PUP Student Tribunal joins the whole PUP community in looking back on the works and sacrifices made by Rizal. But more than anything, as stated by Rizal in the epigraph: the unnamed and unsung heroes of our country, whether yesterday or today, deserve proper recognition as well.

Thereby, this day does not simply mark another year of passing of the country's national hero. This is rather a reminder to be steadfast in pursuing activities regardless of how "big" or "small" one's name is, aiming to stop suppression and oppression coming from above. Thus, the functions of a judiciary in a democracy is tainted when the democracy faces systems of competitive authoritarianism.

Statement of the PUP Student Tribunal on the 24𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐊 𝐏𝐔𝐏 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐲

The PUP Student Tribunal, being the highest judicial body of the Student Council Union, asserts its commitment to upholding the principles of transparency, judiciousness, and legitimacy in the exercise of the democratic selection of the 24th Student Regent.

The core tenets of democracy necessitate a space where the voices of those who want to speak may be heard without the fear of being coerced or silenced. In a democracy, the right to freely participate in the exchange of ideas in furtherance of political decision-making is recognized (Diocese of Bacolod vs. COMELEC).

Therefore, any attempt or tactic to silence, intimidate, or exert undue influence during this critical period in choosing the students’ representative runs counter to the very essence of our democratic ideals.

This Tribunal emphasizes that political differences among the parties involved should be outweighed by the heavy responsibility of representing their constituents. The Assembly’s actions should materialize their commitment to advance the interests of the student body transcending individual ideologies and personal vendetta for the whole student community’s collective benefit.

As guardians of justice tasked by the Student Council Constitution, this Tribunal calls upon all stakeholders to ensure a fair, transparent, and independent democratic process as any actions to disrupt this process blatantly betray the trust of those who voted for them.

Tutulan ang Jeepney Phaseout!

Dahil magkakaroon ng tatlong araw na tigil pasada, tunay na mapipilay ang pangkabuhayan ng mga operator at tsuper sa loob ng mga araw na hindi sila mamamasada. Kaya naman, nilalayon ng komunidad ng PUP na agapayan sila sa buong tatlong araw na magaganap ang nationwide transport strike.

Para magawa iyon, hinihikayat ang bawat isa na makapagbahagi ng anumang donasyong kaya nilang ibigay, sa porma man ng salapi o mga rekurso's kagamitan na makatutulong sa mga operator at tsuper upang maitawid ang tatlong araw na tigil-pasada.

Presenting the Student Tribunal’s Initiative and All of Its Successes in the Midst of the Hybrid Implementation

The Polytechnic University Student Tribunal of Manila’s best-known virtue is that it is the sole independent body that resolves disputes and cases inside the stated campus. Today, prior to the official start of a new academic year, we feel honored to share with the PUP community the important achievements we are proud of. Not only does it prove the efficacy of the well-rounded students serving behind the court but it also shows the driven staff’s single-minded commitment to greatness in the form of unity across all areas while standing as a symbol of justice.

As we close the chapter on the previous academic year, the next phase toward remaining for the students and people begins.

Last September 27, the then-Chief Magistrate Maria Quinntine A. Mercado graduated from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines - Main Campus. With this, the then-Senior Associate Magistrate John Rev Catan, was hereby appointed as the Temporary Officer-In-Charge and Acting Chief Magistrate of the Tribunal, as stipulated on Rule 2, Sec. 4.2(d) of the PUP Student Tribunal 2023 Revised Rules of Courts.

BE PART OF THE PUP CODI & SDB!

The applications to become student representatives to the University Committee on Decorum and Investigation (CODI) and Student Disciplinary Board (SDB) are now open!

As per the 2019 Revised Student Handbook, the President of PUP Sentral na Konseho ng Mag-aaral (SKM) has the power to recommend two (2) student representatives for the SDB and one (1) student representative for the CODI. The main duty of the student representatives is to ensure the safety of every Iskolars ng Bayan from any abuse, discrimination, and harassment, along with different sector representatives inside PUP and the University Legal Counsel Office.

If you think you are qualified to be the next student representative and have full knowledge of the university anti-sexual harassment policies and student handbook, below are the requirements to be submitted:

1. Certificate of Registration for the AY 2023-2024 First Semester
2. Curriculum Vitae
3. Letter of Intent

Iskolar ng Bayan, handa ka na bang maging bahagi ng pinakamasayang pagbabalik-sinta sa PUP Student Tribunal? Abangan ang mga kaabang-abang na aktibidad tulad ng case game (uy pwede overthinkers dito bestie 🤩😅), photo booth, freedom wall, at libreng stickers na siguradong dadalhin ang saya sa bawat araw ng ating pagdiriwang!

Kitakits sa PUP Student Tribunal booth sa October 2,2023 sa ganap na ika-10 ng umaga, kung saan sama-sama tayong magsaya habang nag-aaral at nagsusulong para sa mas makabuluhang pagbabago! Hindi lang ito basta kasiyahan, ito rin ay pagkakataon na maging boses at inspirasyon para sa bawat Iskolar.

𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐭. 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭. 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞.

𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗳 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗠𝗮. 𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗔. 𝗠𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗼 is one of the major pillars in re-establishing the PUP Student Tribunal from the Tribunal’s long inactivity, serving as the Chief Magistrate in AY 2021-2022 and AY 2022-2023. During her time, she led the creation of the PUP ST Rules of Court, spearheaded the first face-to-face event of the Tribunal after its revival, helped in providing a mechanism for the Tribunal’s opening of acceptance of cases, and other activities that benefited the studentry.

The whole PUP Student Tribunal community would like to congratulate Ms. Mercado for finishing her undergraduate degree, Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, with flying colors: 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗮 𝗖𝘂𝗺 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗲!

To our Chief Magistrate/Ate Quinntine, your legacy will always be imprinted in the whole PUP community. As you celebrate this momentous ending of your college life, we, the PUP Student Tribunal, are beaming with pride with you and this incredible feat of yours.
