Parallel Paths to Excellence

Following a year of successful benchmarking initiatives that began in 2025, it is a privilege as Universidad de Manila and Gordon College officially seal a partnership; also marking Gordon College's first major institutional tie-up outside of Region III - with us!

Our institutions stand as parallels in the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI). I believe this shared DNA of excellence made our collaboration not just a possibility, but a natural fit.

This visit was born out of a shared realization: just like at Gordon College, UDM recognized profound challenges navigating the growing complexities of modern education.

The pandemic served as our ultimate "stress test" to us all. It did more than just affirm our need for digital systems; it led us to think outside the box and redefine what is possible for a local university. This brought us to a deep dive into our in-house developed systems, proving that we have the talent to build our own solutions.

We ended our session on a high note, engaging in an intensive exploration of our shared digital tools. We identified strong common ground, and I we are grateful that Gordon College could suggest new, cutting-edge features to help improve and enhance UDM’s current systems.

By sharing insights and strategies, we are ensuring that our communities, both in Olongapo and Manila, are equipped with the best technology, built by our very own hands.

Thank you, Gordon College!

A meaningful exchange of insights and shared commitment to advancing quality and excellence in higher education took place as we met with Dr. Lora L. Yusi of the Commission on Higher Education Office of Institutional Quality Assurance and Governance (OIQAG).

While details of the discussion remain forthcoming, the meeting marks another step toward strengthening institutional development, governance, and future-ready educational initiatives. Stay tuned for more updates.

Grateful for the time and support of Congressman Irwin Tieng of the 5th District of Manila during our recent courtesy call with Universidad de Manila.

We shared updates on the ABG Program (now on its 3rd batch) and the continued growth of our Center for Microcredentialing and Industry Training (CMIT), now expanding further into hospitality-focused programs.

We’re especially encouraged by his support for TESDA-accredited CMIT trainings in Events Management and Bookkeeping - key skills for both government and community-based work - along with his interest in visiting our Bread & Pastry and Cookery sessions.

Appreciate also the presence of ABG alumni and who continue to be part of this growing learning community.

Grateful for my team for having made this event possible: Dr. Robert Norberte, Program Director of ABG and CMIT; Atty. Christian Patrick Labajoy, University Legal Counsel; Ms. Laarni Hernandez from the Office of the University President.

Newly ranked, representing the City of Manila!

The Office of Commissioner Michelle Aguilar Ong congratulates all the Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs) that have earned their place within the Global Top 100 of the World University Ranking for Innovation (WURI) 2026.

This milestone stands as a powerful testament to the resilience and visionary leadership driving our LUCs as they command a presence on the global stage. It reinforces the fact that our institutions are not merely responding to industry shifts but are actively pioneering the future—cultivating a Globalized and Innovative Higher Education landscape dedicated to every Filipino learner.

WURI is a global ranking system that evaluates higher education institutions based on their real-world contributions and innovative approaches. With a focus on tangible impact, the system utilizes 6 core pillars (Industrial Application, Entrepreneurial Spirit, Ethical Value, Crisis Management, Student Mobility and Openness, and Generative AI Application) which significantly broaden the scope of how we measure academic success.

This Labor Day, we honor leaders whose work creates and strengthens opportunities.

We were honored to welcome my good friend and this year’s keynote speaker during our Convocation and Employees’ Night, Hon. Abdulgani M. Macatoman, whose work continues to inspire entrepreneurs and nation-builders alike.

As former DTI Undersecretary and a strong champion of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), he has helped open doors for business owners, creating real pathways for others to grow.

We are always inspired by his vision: Prosperity isn’t reserved for the elite. It’s built by those willing to hustle, innovate, and lift others up along the way.

Alongside our recognition of the dedicated workforce of Universidad de Manila, we also honor his legacy in strengthening opportunities for Filipinos and helping bring Overseas Filipino Workers home safely.

Happy Labor Day!
