Fifty-four years have passed since Martial Law was declared. Yet the lessons of that dark chapter in our history remain as urgent as ever. The names, the stories, the abuses, and the lives affected must never be reduced to mere pages in a history book.
Because the struggle for accountability did not end with the fall of a dictatorship.
Today, our nation continues to confront the consequences of corruption and the abuse of public trust. Billions of pesos meant for public infrastructure and the safety of Filipino communities have come under scrutiny amid investigations into alleged irregularities in flood-control projects. As these investigations continue, the Filipino people are once again asking a question that should never have to be repeated:
And more importantly
The ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ stands with the Filipino people in remembering the victims and survivors of Martial Law and in upholding the values of truth, accountability, and public service. We recognize that remembering history also means remaining vigilant in the present, especially when public trust is placed at risk.
As students and future professionals, we have a responsibility to remain informed, to question what must be questioned, and to speak when the people's trust is betrayed. Silence must never become our response to injustice, and corruption must never become something we simply learn to tolerate.
