To design is to intervene in a living landscape, where every line drawn alters more than the space it defines. Every development leaves impacts beyond its visible footprint, altering natural systems, reshaping communities, and leaving consequences that endure long after the project is complete.

With that reach comes a need to consider what progress leaves behind. The UST CASC stands against developments that place ecosystems and communities at the cost of modernization and calls for a practice grounded in care and accountability.

Every flood-control ghost project carries a cost beyond its budget. There are homes disrupted, livelihoods lost, opportunities washed away, and lives placed in danger.

We cannot continue to call this resilience when Filipinos are left to endure what should have been prevented. As future architects, we must recognize that the built environment carries a responsibility to protect the lives it touches. Public infrastructure must serve the people, not the pockets of those who build it.

The UST CASC calls for accountability, further investigation, and stronger safeguards in the planning and implementation of projects entrusted with public welfare.
