𝟓𝟒𝘁𝗵 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗟𝗮𝘄 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

On September 21, 1972, former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. signed Proclamation No. 1081, placing the Philippines under Martial Law.

Today, we remember the 11,103 claimants determined eligible for monetary reparations by the Human Rights Victims’ Claims Board, as well as the countless Filipinos who stood up for their rights and freedoms despite experiencing torture, arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance, and other human rights violations.

We also remember the restrictions on press freedom and other civil liberties during the Martial Law period, and the Filipinos who fought to uphold truth, justice, and democracy.

May we never forget the sacrifices of those who endured and stood against oppression. May their courage remind us of the importance of protecting our rights, valuing our freedom, and recognizing that public service is a responsibility to the people.
