As we commemorate All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, we hope that we have taken the time to remember our departed loved ones.

They say that feelings can be the scariest ghosts we try to ignore. For those who are silently fighting their battles, please remember that you don’t have to face them alone. We are here to help, just reach out.

The scariest ghosts are the feelings we ignore.
Reach out — you’re not alone in facing them.

As we honor the saints and souls we’ve lost, let’s also care for those still struggling. Reach out, listen, and remind someone they’re not alone.

Hey there, Metronistas 🤗

October is recognized as ADHD Awareness Month.

ADHD is usually seen and related to a lack of attention and focus, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. It is a developmental disorder that begins in early childhood.

This year's theme, "The Many Faces of ADHD" aims to raise awareness about the diverse range of people who have ADHD, challenge stereotypes, and promote a more inclusive understanding of the disorder across all ages and backgrounds.

Focusing not only on its challenges but also on its potential can help avoid stereotyping the condition and discriminating against individuals. It is crucial for individuals to have access to resources, support and environments where they can reach their full potential.

Hey there, Metronistas! 🤗

Today is World Mental Health Day 🧠🫂

World Mental Health Day is an international day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma. It was celebrated for the first time on October 10, 1992, at the initiative of Deputy Secretary General Richard Hunter.

The overall objective of World Mental Health Day is to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and to mobilize efforts in support of mental health. This year's theme, "Access to Services: Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies," highlights the importance of safeguarding the mental health of both the communities we serve and colleagues who deliver this valuable work in times of crisis.

Good day, Metronistas 👋

As we commemorate the World Su***de Prevention Day, let us remember to always initiate vital conversations so we can create better cultures of understanding and support 🫂🤝

⚠️Trigger Warning⚠️

Su***de is a major public health problem with far-reaching social, emotional and economic consequences. It is estimated that there are currently more than 720,000 su***des per year worldwide. Su***de remains a critical global issue, affecting individuals and communities worldwide.

Changing the narrative on su***de aims to inspire individuals, communities, organizations, and governments to engage in open and honest discussions about su***de and suicidal behaviour. By initiating these vital conversations, we can break down barriers, raise awareness, and create better cultures of understanding and support.

Hey there, Metronistas! 👋

Today is International Literacy Day 📚📖📝

International Literacy Day, proclaimed by UNESCO in 1966 and endorsed by the Economic and Social Council in 1967, aimed to remind the international community of the importance of literacy for individuals, communities and societies.

This year, International Literacy Day (ILD) will be celebrated under the theme of "Promoting Literacy in the Digital Era". This theme highlights the transformative impact of digitalization on how people learn, work, and interact, emphasizing the need to develop skills for safely and effectively navigating digital environments, alongside traditional literacy. The theme also addresses the challenges of digital exclusion and the importance of fostering lifelong learning ecosystems to enhance literacy in the digital age.

Hello, September!

Let’s embrace the “ber” months with zest and strength. The days may be getting busier than usual, and life can feel overwhelming at times. Take things one step at a time, and surely, we will get there.

September is also Su***de Prevention Month. While it may be a sensitive topic, its purpose is to remind us of the importance of spreading awareness.

Let us be mindful of our actions both in how we treat ourselves and others. Always remember that you are important and you are loved.

If you need counseling, please do not hesitate to send us a message or visit the Guidance and Counseling Department.

Hey there, Metronistas 👋

Today marks the observance of World Humanitarian Day

World Humanitarian Day is an international day that honours Humanitarian workers and commemorates those who have died while serving Humanitarian missions. It recognizes and celebrates the spirit of people helping others around the world. The day was established in memory of the 22 aid workers who lost their lives in a bombing at the Canal Hotel in Baghdad, Iraq, on August 19 2003, including Sergio Vieira de Mello, the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Iraq. In 2008, the UN General Assembly officially designated the 19th of August as World Humanitarian Day.

Each year, the day adopts a specific theme to unite Humanitarian partners in advocating for the protection, dignity, and well-being of people in crisis, as well as the safety of aid workers. This year's theme is "Strengthening Global Solidarity and Empowering Local Communities". This theme underscores the vital role of working hand-in-hand with Communities, not merely as beneficiaries, but as active participants and leaders shaping their own futures.

Hey there, Metronistas! 👋

Today is International Youth Day 🤗

International Youth Day is commemorated every year on August 12, bringing youth issues to the attention of the international community and celebrating the potential of youth as partners in today's global society.

The idea for International Youth Day was proposed in 1991 by the young people who were gathered in Vienna, Austria, for the first session of the World Youth Forum of the United Nations System. The forum recommended that an International Youth Day be declared, especially for fund-raising and promotional purposes, to support the United Nations Youth Fund in partnership with youth organizations.

The theme of this year's IYD, "Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond", highlights the unique role of youth in translating global ambitions into community-driven realities.

Hey there, Metronistas! 👋

Today is the International Day of the World's Indigenous People

There are an estimated 476 million indigenous people in the world living across 90 countries. They make up less than 5 per cent of the world's population, but account for 15 per cent of the poorest. They speak an overwhelming majority of the world’s estimated 7,000 languages and represent 5,000 different cultures. Indigenous people are inheritors and practitioners of unique cultures and ways of relating to people and the environment. They have retained social, cultural, economic and political characteristics that are distinct from those of the dominant societies in which they live. Despite their cultural differences, indigenous people from around the world share common problems related to the protection of their rights as distinct people.

In order to raise awareness of the needs of these population groups, every 9th of August commemorates the International Day of the World’s Indigenous People, chosen in recognition of the first meeting of the UN Working Group on Indigenous Populations held in Geneva in 1982.

Each year, UNESCO marks the celebration of the day by sharing information on projects and activities that are relevant to the annual theme. This year’s theme is: “Indigenous People and AI: Defending Rights, Shaping Futures”.

''Artificial intelligence holds the potential to enhance the transmission of ancestral knowledge. Yet, without safeguards in place to ensure its ethical and inclusive development, it risks causing digital exclusion, reinforcing harmful biases and distorting Indigenous languages.''

Hey there, Metronistas! 👋

Well done! You completed your first week of classes. Take a moment to acknowledge that accomplishment. Reward yourself a pat on the back, as you truly deserve it.

This weekend, refrain from immediately attempting to make up for all you've missed. Rather, focus on self-care and introspection. It's time to pause, consider the past week, and restore your energy for the journey ahead.

What factors contribute to the significance of celebrating this first week?

Momentum Builder: Starting the semester positively, despite the unavoidable challenges, sets you up for a strong beginning to the upcoming weeks by allowing you to keep progressing.

Acknowledgment of Effort: Simply being present, attending, and participating in your classes reflects your dedication and commitment to education. Great job for showing up and working hard!

Recharge and Reflect: Take this weekend to restore your energy and think about what you've achieved, not just academically, but also in terms of your study methods, time management, and your general ease in this new environment.

Reminder of Purpose: Keep in mind the reason for your attendance. Recommit to your goals and ambitions. The initial week acts as a reminder of the journey you've experienced and the amazing opportunities that await you.
