“Faith, Hope, and Love” ⛪️

The 4th Year students took time to deepen their relationship with God last September 12 to 14, 2026 at Caleruega Retreat Center, Nasugbu, Batangas.

A fruitful 3 days of reflection on how their faith in God and prayer life can help them navigate life’s transitions and discern God’s plan for them. A time to rediscover strength and courage to face the reality of life’s struggles and learn how to build hope (as informed by faith), resiliency, and a support system in their circle of relationships.

NEW PUBLICATION ALERT 📣

The Research Center for Engineering and Technological Sciences proudly congratulates Asst. Prof. Yoshiki B. Kurata, PhD, CIE, AAE, Principal Investigator and Head of the People-centered Research in Human Factors, Intelligent Systems, and Multi-criteria Optimization (PRISM) Lab, together with his co-authors Lance Gabriel O. Ramos, Liam Alec M. Rapada, and Dennis L. Umlas of the UST Graduate School, on their latest Scopus-indexed publication! 🎉

Their paper, “Optimizing Fleet Composition for Electric Vehicle Integration: A Case Study in the Philippines,” has been published in Engineering Proceedings by MDPI.

The study addresses the timely challenge of transitioning public-sector vehicle fleets toward electric mobility. Using a hybrid decision-making approach integrating the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and linear programming, the research presents a practical framework for optimizing fleet composition while balancing financial, operational, and sustainability considerations.

This publication highlights how engineering research, optimization, and data-driven decision-making can contribute to the Philippines’ transition toward more sustainable transportation systems.

The Department of Industrial Engineering proudly congratulates Asst. Prof. Yoshiki B. Kurata, PhD, CIE, AAE, Academic Staff and Laboratory Supervisor, for representing the UST IE Department at the Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and the Pacific (FEIAP) FEIAP 34th General Assembly and 8th Convention, held last September 2 to 4, 2026, at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia.

Held under the theme “Engineering the Sustainable Transition through Innovation and Resilience”, the event brought together engineering leaders, professionals, policymakers, and representatives of engineering institutions from across the Asia-Pacific region to exchange knowledge, share best practices, and discuss emerging challenges and opportunities in the engineering profession.

As part of Pillar 4: Engineering Leadership - Building Future Leaders, Asst. Prof. Kurata delivered a plenary talk titled “SEE. REDESIGN. LEAD. — Building Human-Centered Engineering Leaders,” which focused on the evolving role of engineers in addressing complex challenges through a human-centered, systems-oriented approach. The presentation emphasized the importance of seeing beyond technical problems to understand people, contexts, and systems; redesigning processes and conditions to create meaningful improvements; and leading with responsibility, purpose, and action.

Asst. Prof. Kurata’s talk highlighted how engineers can move beyond traditional technical roles to become effective change-makers who contribute to organizational improvement, sustainable development, and societal advancement.

The program featured the World Engineering Congress and Exhibition, the FEIAP General Assembly, and the Youth Talent Innovation Competition.
