CCM is one of the two locally funded higher-education institutions of Manila offering free college education to the city’s under-privileged students. City College of Manila or Universidad De Manila (UDM) was founded in 1995 during the term of Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim. It was then located at the old Philippine National Bank building in Santa Cruz until the new building was constructed in Taft Ave corner Hospital St., near the Manila City Hall and LRT - Central Station. Recently, the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) disallowed the UDM to confer postgraduate studies. City college to be named after Bonifacio. The City College of Manila (CCM) will soon be renamed Pamantasang Gat Andres Bonifacio as the city commemorates the 144th birth anniversary of its most celebrated son and hero. Mayor Alfredo Lim of Manila, who founded CCM during his first term in 1995, said the school will be renamed in honor of Bonifacio, who despite financial difficulties, pursued knowledge through self-education.
