Some moments from Agora: On Death’s Door 🖤

From heavy reflections on mortality to the quiet pauses in between, this conversation brought together perspectives that challenged how we think about life, death, and everything in between.

Guided by the insights of our speakers and the thoughtful engagement of everyone in the room, the discussion unfolded through questions, reactions, shared silences, and even the occasional laughter that reminded us that philosophy is always a lived and communal experience.

If you were there, you know how powerful the exchange was.
If not, here’s a glimpse of what unfolded beyond death’s door.

And the plot thickens… 🌱💔

Land-grabbing may be legal, but at what cost? Communities lose their culture, livelihood, and the environment suffers. It’s up to us to stay informed, stand for justice, and build a future where no one is left behind.

True progress doesn’t take from people—it protects them.

What does it mean to become, and where do we truly belong? 🤔

Philosophy is more than theories and texts; it thrives in conversation, friendship, and shared reflection. Inspired by Aristotle’s idea that friendship is essential to living well, Becoming & Belonging invites you to step into a space where meaningful dialogue and genuine connections take center stage.

Meet fellow thinkers, exchange ideas, and discover how philosophy comes alive not only in arguments, but in the relationships we build along the way.

The rights to a land, the rights to inhabit it, the rights to use it. Such issues come into the common conversations concerned about land distribution and ownership. In a typical investor’s argument, a plot is wasted when it’s not being put to good use by its occupants, and that the area would be more beneficial by people who may have actual plans for it, but such claim leaves little room for the voice of ethical questions: does it truly benefit in the long run?

🧠 Health is not just physical. It is human. It is shared. It is ethical.

💡Last February 28 at the Teresa Yuchengco Auditorium, our
minds met where reason and heart intersects. Health & Ethics was more than a lecture. It was a space for reflecting, rethinking, and questioning the weight of our everyday choices.

❗️From meaningful conversations to powerful insights, the Karunungan Lectures 2026 reminded us that doing what is “correct” in health needs both critical thinking and compassion.
Thank you to everyone who joined us in thinking deeper in the Karunungan Lectures: Health & Ethics.

From Marx’s “primitive accumulation” to the critique of ongoing capitalist expansion, is land really just land? Some may say that land has always been power.

Through a Rawlsian lens in A Theory of Justice, we must ask: if inequalities are only right when the least advantaged are benefitted, can concentrated land ownership ever be justified? When access to productive assets is what defines real freedom, justice then demands more than just policy, it demands structural fairness.

Labor, Liberty, Land. Who really benefits?

⛰⛰⛰⛰

Do you remember visiting the province as a kid and experiencing just how different it is from home? You enter the backseat of the car, and after experiencing a long drive and a short rest, you open your eyes and find yourself taken to a place that you don't see every day. So different from home, but nonetheless inviting with her free spaces and open nature. Perhaps you have spent a lot of time with your loved ones, or made plenty of great memories here, and it's become a location you recall with fondness. You call her a good place.

Now, have you ever gone back to that place after so many years to find that she had changed? Maybe a building or three now stands where there was once open air, and the wind is hotter than it used to be. It’s tighter. The bugs are nowhere to be seen or heard, and the dirt trails have been gated off or replaced by stone roads. Standing in the same spot, years later, you can barely recognize her. You can't help but think: what happened to the place I loved?

The answer lies in investigating the occupier.
