UST College of Tourism and Hospitality Management joined USTGS-CCCPET,
Pampanga State Agricultural University, and LGU Magalang in bringing Seeds, Seasons, and Celebrations: A Conference and Case Studies on Agricultural Festivals and Climate Resilience to life.
The two-day gathering brought together scholars, practitioners, farmers, students, government representatives, and communities to explore agricultural heritage, sustainable festivals, food traditions, and climate resilience.
Thank you to our speakers, participants, partners, and stakeholders for helping cultivate meaningful dialogue and collective action toward a more sustainable future. We hope to see you again next year!

Dear CTHM Fam,

Peace!

Yesterday, 17 August, marked the feast day of our patron saint, St. Hyacinth. We kicked off the celebration with an indoor procession through the corridors of our building—since the rain kept us from holding it outside. We then made our way to the Santissimo Rosario Parish for a short recollection led by Fr. Jayson Gonzales, OP, followed by an 11:30 AM Mass celebrated by Fr. Pablo Tiong, OP, Vice Rector for Religious Affairs, and Fr. Ferdinand Bautista, OP our Regent.

With over 1,600 members of our CTHM Family filling the church, the atmosphere was vibrant, festive, and full of energy! But during communion, we noticed floodwaters creeping up outside. By the time the Mass ended, the chapel’s main entrance and exit were completely submerged. And just like that… we were trapped.

We were supposed to have a happy salo-salo to mark our fiesta, but instead, we found ourselves stranded. I kept hoping the water would recede, but 3:00 PM came, 5:00 PM passed, and night fell—with the waters showing no signs of subsiding.

At first, I couldn't help but ask: Is this really the fiesta we planned and looked forward to?

I had every reason to feel frustrated or disappointed, but looking back, God allowed us to experience a far more profound fiesta than the one we had mapped out.

Being stranded together for over 10 hours turned out to be the real celebration!

💙💚A feast of generosity: Our Dominican Fathers opened their pantry and shared whatever they had—thank you so much for the love, Fathers!

💙💚A feast of leadership & teamwork: We felt the overwhelming care of our administrators (at both the University and College levels), alongside the incredible support and cooperation of all our academic and support staff.

💙💚A feast of student heart: What a beautiful treat from our incredible CTHM Student Council—how could I ever pull things off without you? To CTHM Pax Romana, who initiated this Feast Day and stayed present for everyone, and to the CTHM RCYC for your dedication—what an unbelievable display of student care and spirit!

💙💚A feast of family: I spoke with so many parents throughout the evening, and their understanding, concern, and encouragement meant the world.

It turned out to be the most meaningful fiesta of all. BUMAHA! But more than floodwaters, it was a flood of unexpected blessings—BUMAHA ng BAYANIHAN, PAGBIBIGAYAN, at PAGKAKAINTINDIHAN. Bumaha ng pagpapasensya, pagkain, at higit sa lahat, PAGMAMAHAL at YAKAP sa isa’t isa.

Who would have thought that being stuck in the chapel for over 10 hours would turn into such a heartfelt, unforgettable celebration?

Proud to be represented by four UST CTHM resource speakers: Asst. Prof. Mercado, Asst. Prof. Andaya, Dr. Elacion, and Mr. Butiong.

Mabuhay!

As we have started the 1st Term for Academic Year 2026-2027, we are very delighted to announce that two of our students, namely Mike Lourence Bug-os of the Tourism Management and Brent Kennedy Cade Maulleon of the Hospitality Management, have made it to the Asian International Mobility for Students (AIMS) Program at Mae Fah Luang University (MFU), Chiang Rai, Thailand.

The AIMS is an international exchange program within Asia that provides students with the opportunity to study at our partner universities, with the goal of strengthening academic collaboration, cultural exchange, and community development, as well as diversifying student experience.

Before leaving the Philippines, Mike and Brent received two special 'pabaon' from the college, one is a strengthening message from Prof. Gezzez Giezi G. Granado, DCL, the Dean, and the other is a special blessing from Rev. Fr. Ferdinand L. Bautista, O.P., PhD, the Regent, so that their academic journey will be filled with the grace of our Lord and always guided by our Thomasian virtues.

The students left the Philippines on July 30, 2026, alongside Inst. John Jerick C. Santos, MLdrshpOrgLrng, CGSP, the College's International Relations and Programs Coordinator, to ensure everyone is settled safely; the group was welcomed by MFU's international team upon arrival in Chiang Rai, Thailand. As part of the college's support towards students' cultural familiarization and adjustment before being on their own, the group had a short-day exploration of Chiang Rai before Inst. Santos finally headed back to the Philippines; the group would also like to express its gratitude to MFU's Tourism Department, led by Dr. Athitaya Pathan, for endorsing one of its Tourism students to serve as a guide and for already setting the rapport with the AIMS participants during the said familiarization.

Classes at MFU this term officially started on August 3 and will end on December 5. Let us all pray for the success of Mike and Brent as they learn and explore in Thailand!

Mabuhay!

Last July 31, 2026, Inst. John Jerick C. Santos, MLdrshpOrgLrng, CGSP, the Coordinator for International Relations and Programs for the UST College of Tourism and Hospitality Management (CTHM), had the opportunity to meet with the Mae Fah Luang University, Chiang Rai, Thailand's School of Management, particularly its Tourism Business and Events Program, and Hospitality Business Management Program.

The focus of the discussion was to strengthen the current relationship between UST CTHM and MFU, specifically the two mentioned programs, thereby fostering a mutually beneficial and understanding relationship across its Exchange Programs (Faculty and Student Mobility), Transnational Education, Community Development (Service Learning), and Transnational Research. The meeting was attended by Dr. Piyanuch Prangkam, the Program Head for Hospitality Business Management, and Dr. Athitaya Pathan, the Program Head for Tourism Business and Events. Through the assistance of Dr. Prangkam, Inst. Santos was able to take a closer look at some of MFU's facilities, where teaching and learning take place, and was also introduced to some key faculty members for potential collaborations.

The University of Santo Tomas - College of Tourism and Hospitality Management (CTHM) once again proved its excellence on the international culinary stage after securing 11 medals at the Philippine Culinary Cup 2026: Where the Best Meet to Compete.

The CTHM delegation delivered an outstanding performance across 11 categories, finishing with 2 Highest Gold, 1 Silver, and 8 Bronze medals, including 3 Highest Bronze distinctions.

This remarkable haul was bannered by the Highest Gold victories of Vida Sandina Umali for her innovative take on the Modern Filipino Dessert and the dynamic duo of Liam Carlo Cruz and Antonio Jesus Tamayo in the Young Chefs Team Category.

The Culinary Entrepreneurship students and Chef Instructors competed alongside more than 1,200 competitors from hotels, restaurants, and culinary schools, whose entries were evaluated by 60 international judges.

Adding to the celebration, Almira Alyssa Gweyn Pado, a senior Culinary Entrepreneurship student, was recognized as a recipient of the prestigious Michael Strautmanis Scholarship Grant, a remarkable international achievement that brings further honor to the CTHM community.

This achievement is a testament to the dedication of the students, academic staff members, and apprentices who underwent rigorous training.

The Philippine Culinary Cup, recognized as a WORLDCHEFS Continental Competition, is the country's most prestigious culinary competition. This year's edition was held from July 29 to August 1, 2026, at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City.

The team was led by Asst. Prof. Reinald Andaya, Competition Point Person of the Hospitality Management Department.

Last July 30 (Afternoon), the UST College of Tourism and Hospitality Management officially ushered in the BS Tourism Management Freshmen during their Departmental Orientation!

Surrounded by the warm energy and enthusiastic presence of our incoming students, the orientation gave our freshies their very first taste of Thomasian Tourism journey. To help them navigate their academic journey, the session covered key highlights of the BSTM curriculum, alongside the wide array of curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities waiting for them.

From hands-on training and academic milestones to student organizations and vibrant campus events, our freshies got a complete preview of what it means to live the holistic Thomasian experience. Seeing their bright smiles and eagerness to learn proved that the future of hospitality is indeed in great hands!
