Following their milestone achievement at the international conference held in Cebu City, our chairman, Dr. Alain, together with our graduating students and Prof. Arlen Ancheta, PhD, of the UST Graduate School took the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich culture and vibrant culinary scene of the Queen City of the South. Beyond the academic and professional success celebrated during the conference, the trip also became a meaningful experience for learning, camaraderie, and cultural appreciation.

Huge congratulations to our graduating students, Alyanna Coleen San Gabriel and Moiren Secilla Dela Cruz, for winning the Best Paper Award at the International Conference on Nature Studies and Innovations on the Environment (ICNSIE) 2026, held at the University of the Philippines Cebu. Their study, "Between Growth and Green: An Empirical Analysis of Urbanization, Energy, and Emissions in Emerging ASEAN Economies," tackle critical contemporary issues with impressive depth.

We also commend Joshua Lucero and Kenneth, whose excellent mixed-methods research study, "The Impact of Environmental Disruptions to Philippine International Trade," was named a Best Paper finalist. Outstanding work, team! Your dedication to impactful environmental research is truly inspiring. 🏅👏

Our chairman, Dr. Alain Santos was one of the administrators who represented the University of Santo Tomas in a workshop focused on the future of our discipline. Dean Alfaith Navarrette from the UST College of Commerce and Business Administration, and our chairman, from the Faculty of Arts and Letters Department of Economics, joined fellow educators and stakeholders for the Luzon Consultation Workshop for the Development of the Philippine Economics Education Roadmap. It was a day of productive dialogue, focused on elevating the standards of economics education in the country and ensuring our curriculum remains responsive to the evolving global landscape. 🐯📈

The graduating students of UST Department of Economics truly exemplified the core values of responsibility and environmental stewardship. From observing local ecosystems to practicing proper waste management, this activity was a testament to our commitment to environmental sustainability and mindful governance. 🌱 More than just a Service-Learning activity, this was a perfect illustration of learning the realities of Environmental Economics from the Community. 📚We are deeply grateful to the people of Brgy. Sibulan for welcoming us with open arms into their beautiful barangay and by sharing their stories, which gave us a clearer understanding of the real-world challenges🌾
